A rocket ride of a thriller—the #1 New York Times bestselling blockbuster by President Bill Clinton and James Patterson, "the dream team" (Lee Child).

All Presidents have nightmares. This one is about to come true.

Every detail is accurate—because one of the authors is President Bill Clinton.

The drama and action never stop—because the other author is James Patterson.

Matthew Keating, a one-time Navy SEAL—and a past president—has always defended his family as staunchly as he has his country. Now those defenses are under attack.

A madman abducts Keating's teenage daughter, Melanie—turning every parent's deepest fear into a matter of national security. As the world watches in real time, Keating embarks on a one-man special-ops mission that tests his strengths: as a leader, a warrior, and a father.

The authors' first collaboration, The President Is Missing, a #1 New York Times bestseller and the #1 bestselling novel of 2018, was praised as "ambitious and wildly readable" (New York Times Book Review) and "a fabulously entertaining thriller" (Pulitzer Prize-winning author Ron Chernow).

Review

“Clinton and Patterson’s standalone sequel to their 2018 thriller, The President Is Missing, puts their respective expertise to good use in a twisting plot.”―TIME

“Brace yourself for a thriller with inside secrets and riveting excitement that only the partnership of Patterson and Clinton could produce. From the president’s opening phone call to the politically tense ending, it’s a page turner with resonance for our times.”―
Walter Isaacson, #1 New York Times bestselling author

"
The President's Daughter is an absolute rocket.  Rich with authenticity only a president could deliver, this story of a father's desperate search for his daughter will have readers burning through pages. Clinton and Patterson are simply the best in the thriller business."―Robert Crais, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Elvis Cole series

The President’s Daughter is a smart, taut, utterly fantastic roller coaster that had me holding on for dear life: a combination of every parent’s worst nightmare—a daughter abducted by a terrorist with a scimitar—and the inside world of Washington, DC (a place where, arguably, the knives are pretty damn sharp, too).”―Chris Bohjalian, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Midwives, The Flight Attendant, and Hour of the Witch

The President’s Daughter is a spellbinding thrill ride that grabs the reader tight on page one and doesn’t let go till the very last page. With lightning-paced prose and a plot that seems terrifyingly plausible, this is one novel you won’t be able to put down.”―Mark Greaney, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Relentless, a Gray Man novel

“Propulsive, exhilarating, and unnervingly believable. You won’t just read
The President’s Daughter, you’ll devour it.”―Karin Slaughter, New York Times and internationally bestselling author

“This novel offers tantalizing clues into the unconscious of Clinton…[a] highly entertaining book.”―
New York Times

“James Patterson brought his A-game to this one, and Bill Clinton adds the verisimilitude one would expect from his experiences in the White House as a former president and commander-in-chief. Buy it; read it; enjoy it.”―
New York Journal of Books

The President's Daughter is a compelling, action-packed thriller from James Patterson and former President Bill Clinton. Here are my thoughts immediately after reading, with no spoilers:

The book is divided into five parts and an epilogue, with a total of 136 chapters, and just under 600 pages of story. As you can imagine with that many chapters, each one is pretty short, at just a few pages. The setting or perspective often changes with a new chapter, so the story is slowly built up from different angles.

The book starts out right away with descriptions of some brutal and dramatic events in the first chapter. The extreme nature of the antagonist is established, and some gruesome details are used to really portray him as a terrible enemy.

Starting with Chapter 4 we get some chapters that are written in the first person from our protagonist President Matt Keating's perspective. There are a few details that I noticed right away that showed the possible influences of President Clinton on the story; including that President Keating's daughter attending Sidwell Friends School, the same school that President Clinton's daughter Chelsea actually attended when he was in office. The first person perspective of these chapters serves to really put the reader in President Keating's shoes, and made it easier to feel invested in the story. Part One does a good job of setting up the characters, as you also see the early tension between Keating and his successor, the new President Pamela Barnes, who had been previously been his Vice President.

In Part Two the pace seemed to slow down a bit, even though this is where the former President’s daughter Mel is actually kidnapped. There are many chapters from her perspective, so her character's competent but frightened nature is well established. You get to see the situation from several different character's perspectives as the chapters switch back and forth, and the scope of the situation is fleshed out.

The pace picks back up toward the end of the second part, and there is a ton of action and compelling scenes that made it hard to put the book down. I felt like the main characters were given just enough background and detail for the interactions to seem realistic, even with this plot that might initially seem somewhat unlikely. The authors really create an environment that sets up clear heroes and villains, and makes it easy to root for the protagonist.

Overall I enjoyed this book. Even though it was pretty long at 600 pages, the shorter chapters and the constant switching of perspectives prevented it from ever getting too boring or tedious. It might not have been the most amazing or mind-blowing story I've ever read, but anything that can keep me interested for that long and come to a satisfying conclusion is a pretty good book in my opinion. 4.5/5

I chose four stars because James Patterson was involved. I swore to never again to buy any more books by him after his shameless money grab when he ended one of his Alex Cross novels with not only a cliffhanger, but entirely without understanding unless you purchased the next installment. With that being said I was intrigued with his collaboration with Bill Clinton in "The. President is Missing" and did purchase one. It was an excellent read and was extremely factual and entertaining. For that reason I also purchased this one and it does not disappoint. It also has a ring of truth to it and is very readable and entertaining. Nice bite sized chapters so you can take a break if needed without losing your train of thought. But you will not want to take many breaks as it is hard to put down

This is an amazing thriller from the first paragraph to the very last. The characters are so real I felt like I had known them all my life. This, like many others by James Patterson, is one that is difficult to put down. I throughly enjoyed every page. Now on to the next one.

Patterson's second book with Bill Clinton. This one entails a recently defeated one term president, Matt Keating, an ex SEAL, whom an Arab nemesis,Asim Al Asheed, blames for killing his wife and daughters with a drone strike. In return, he kidnaps the president's teenage daughter, Mel, and taunts him and his wife with a video that implies she has had her head chopped off. A closer look shows it was faked, and so off go the president, members and a few trusted friends from his administration, to rescue her, calling in help from a Saudi and an Israeli friend to track her whereabouts in the Middle East where she has been taken. All the while, the woman who was his vice president who, with help from her devious husband, became president, scheme against the mission and refuse to fulfill any demands from the killer. There is an air force plane ride to Tunisia, helicopter ride to Libya, lots of gun descriptions, hopes and disappointments, shootings and a very in the know daughter trying to escape her captor. Even some Chinese involvement thrown in. The book is long, but still a quick, interesting read. (After all, though it makes for reality, one need not dwell on descriptions like: fully automatic Colt M4 5.56mm rifle with infrared laser sight and a SIG Sauer 9mmP226 pistol.) I also liked that the chapters are very short. Easy to stop and go.

Started book and put away for when have none left to read. Even with 4x mag readers, way too tiny print. Get the pb or hardcover! I read at least one novel per week. Mass market paperbacks should be abolished! This one us particularly small, even more so than others. So much for trying to save a few bucks! Really good fast paced like the action spy thrillers. Some stuff predictable, to me anyway....

I liked the first collaboration between the two authors, but this novel, their second together, is at a much higher level. The plot is not far-fetched, and the story unfolds nicely. The character development is well-paced and gets you caring about each person's viewpoint, although most of the novel is first-person with enough supporting content to keep the whole thing together. The writing is gripping, and I totally enjoyed the reading experience. Excellent novel! I hope we see more from them both!
