Outstanding. What a shame it has never been made a school subject.

It took me a while to get TO Dwight's memoir as I'm generally not into autobiographies or military stories. However, once I opened it, I became IMMEDIATELY engaged by the candor with which Dwight shared wonderful anecdotes about his kooky family. He shows us that the mid-western African-American experience isn't all that different at all. He grew up not exactly "dirt poor", but definitely RICH in creativity and encouragement from a loving mother and sisters.

Ed's successes make us consider that we all have a multi-dimensionality and shouldn't limit ourselves to exploring just one or two. Dwight's story is truly inspiring. He's honest, without bragging and somehow he manages to keep it light all the way to the epilogue. I've shared it with my friends and look forward to sharing much more.

I would have given it five stars. However, the type-face makes the book appear a bit intimidating at first and doesn't quite capture the wonderful wit and delightful spirit of the authors voice.

If I could give it a zero I would. This was not as advertised. It appeared as if it was a box sit with two sculptures in a book. In fact it was a book with no cover. Who in their right mind would pay $133 for a book that is still in print. It was not autographed. Fortunately, Amazon stand behind their work and I was refunded the full amount.

As an aerospace historian, I thought I pretty much knew about Ed Dwight. After purchasing and reading his book, I was ashamed to say I knew very little.

Having grown up in the Civil Rights era, I felt the pain and angst he suffered by his words and description. Thankfully we've done better, and for the likes of Ed Dwight, now my hero, that's one reason why.

VERY well written.

Great, insightful story of an important American whose contributions have been lost in the politics of the time.

The life of Ed Dwight, compelling in every aspect. A man to be held in the highest esteem. A story that reminds me that, like all non-fiction, true stories trump all! I could not put this book down.
