This is my 4th bamboo board and it looks like the search is finally over!
What I like about it:
1. It's the perfect size - it's large enough to be able to cut and chop comfortably, but still not too big to take up all the counter space
2. It's the perfect weight and thickness - I've had several bamboo boards before, and the problem was they were too thin, and they warped no matter how many mineral oil treatments I made or how careful I was not to leave water on them. In opposition, a big wooden board I had was so heavy that I repeatedly avoided using it, just because my arm would hurt. But not anymore! This Totally Bamboo Kauai Cutting Board is just right: thick enough not to warp, light enough to be able to use it.
3. It looks beautiful - I treated it with mineral oil in the beginning, as per instructions; the board looks beautiful and I expect some good years of use out of it.
4. It won't dull knives - the board will get some cuts and scratches, for sure, but the good news is, the board is soft enough so it won't dull my knives.
5. It's ecological and naturally anti-microbial.
I am really pleased with this bamboo board, would certainly recommend it.

Over 20 years ago, our first bamboo cutting boards came from scraps from our handmade furniture we were selling at street festivals.
On a lark, we brought them to an art show we were exhibiting in. We were stunned when they sold in minutes. Joanne looked at Tom and said "this is our new product" and Totally Bamboo was born!

Beautifully crafted from natural, sustainable Moso bamboo, the two-toned board brings a touch of island style to your kitchen. It features caps of natural light bamboo flanking the main cutting surface of rich caramelized bamboo. Bamboo is an excellent cutting surface: it's lightweight yet durable and gentle on knives. The Kauai Bamboo Cutting Board is perfectly sized for everyday use at 14-1/2 inches long and 11-1/2 inches wide. It's ideal for chopping vegetables, carving chicken, slicing fruits or even serving a spread of meats and cheeses. Why Bamboo?
Bamboo is gentler on knives than plastic and easier to clean and maintain than hardwood— it cleans quickly with hand washing in warm water.
As a grass, its roots remain and quickly regrows after harvest. It's grown organically even on difficult terrain without artificial irrigation or re-planting.
Its root system helps to prevent erosion. And the Moso bamboo used by Totally Bamboo is not a part of the panda's diet.

FALSE ADVERTISING
Although this cutting board seems to be very well made my MAJOR complaint is that the thickness was less than advertised. To me this IS a big deal. I wanted a cutting board that was at least 3/4" so it would not tend to warp over time. In the description, it stated that the board was 0.8 inches thick (slightly over 3/4" (.75"). When I got the board the actual measurement (taken with a vernier caliper) came to .640 which is just slightly over 5/8" (.625). The Kauai was at 5/8". Folks....that's a big deal! I bought three of these cutting boards the Kauai, Kona and Hana all made from Totally Bamboo. All three were advertised at .8 inches thick but all were found at about 5/8" inches thick. I was going to return them but my wife wanted to keep them. I hope I won't be sorry. Totally Bamboo needs to QA their products to ensure their craftsmen are making the product they advertise. If not Totally Bamboo AND their distributors should change the dimensions. I don't like FALSE ADVERTISING!!
