Ingredients 16 ounces saffron rice, 12 little neck clams, 1/4 pound shrimp, cleaned with tails on or off, 1/4 pound scallops, 1 cup sugar snap peas, 1/4 red pepper, diced. 2 tablespoons olive oil, 1 tablespoon butter, 1 leek, cleaned, trimmed and chopped, 4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, 8 ounces sliced fresh mushrooms, 2 cups water, 1 cup 7 grain rice blend (you may substitute brown or converted rice), 1 head fresh broccoli, cut into small pieces 1 cup sour cream, 1/2 cup half and half, 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated 1/4 cup almonds, slivered. 2 1/2 cups jasmine rice, 2 cans unsweetened coconut milk, 1/4 cup water, pinch salt, 1/2 orange, zested and juiced 1/2 lemon, zested and juiced, 1 1/2 inches fresh ginger root, peeled and grated 1 tablespoon soy sauce, Kosher salt, to taste.
Directions Scrub clams thoroughly and rinse well. Cook rice in Oster Rice Cooker according to package directions. Add clams, shrimp, scallops, sugar snap peas and red pepper five minutes before rice is done. Toss well and serve with crisp French bread and a fresh salad. Option: Wild rice mix may be substituted for saffron rice. Place in Oster Rice Cooker olive oil, butter, chicken and leeks in that order and cook about 5 minutes with lid down. Turn chicken and add mushrooms, and cook 5 more minutes. Lift lid, push chicken to one side and pour in rice. Stir rice in liquid in bottom of cooker until coated evenly. Add water and stir rice and chicken together. Place broccoli on top of rice and chicken mixture. Close lid and continue cooking. When rice is done add sour cream and half and half and heat another 1-2 minutes. Sprinkle with cheese, cover, let stand 2 minutes to melt cheese, sprinkle with nuts and serve. Place rice, coconut milk, water and salt into rice cooker and cook. In separate bowl combine combine orange zest and juice, lemon zest and juice, ginger, and soy sauce. When rice is done put in serving bowl and top with citrus sauce.

Make rice to the perfect fluffy consistency and steam vegetables to go with it using the Oster 6 Cup Rice Cooker with Steamer. Featuring easy to use integrated one touch controls, this easy care rice cooker prepares up to six cups of perfectly cooked rice or grains, making it perfect for couples or small families. The electric rice cooker comes with a 1 liter vegetable steamer tray for steaming vegetables or fish to go with your rice dish. You can also use this mini rice cooker to make noodles, soups, fondue, and much more. The removable dishwasher safe nonstick inner pot and steamer tray make cleaning easy, while the tempered glass lid lets you check on your food and leftovers. The automatic keep warm function keeps food at the ideal serving temperature, and the auto shut off feature helps prevent food from burning. A power indicator light lets you know when the unit is on. The Oster 6 Cup Rice Cooker comes with a measuring cup and rice paddle spoon.Care This appliance should be cleaned after every use. 1 Unplug the rice cooker when not in use and before cleaning. Never immerse HEATING UNIT, cord or plug in water or any other liquids. Allow the RICE COOKER to cool completely before cleaning. NOTE: Use the RICE LADLE or wooden utensil to stir and remove food from the INNER POT. DO NOT use metal utensils. 2 To clean the HEATING UNIT, lightly wipe the exterior with a damp cloth or sponge. Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. 3 The INNER POT is coated with a non stick coating to make clean up easier. To clean, remove the INNER POT from the rice cooker and fill with hot water from the tap. Let it sit for a while and then wash with hot soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. 4 The inner pot , lid , rice ladle and measuring cup are dishwasher safe. 5 Make sure that the grains of rice do not stick to the heating plate in the bottom of the heating base. If this occurs, remove immediately. If grains of rice are stuck onto the heating plate, a non abrasive pad can be used to remove it. Polish the area for good contact between the heating plate , and the bottom of the INNER POT. NOTE: Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads or steel wool to clean the RICE COOKER. 6 Do not use bleach, vinegar or other harsh chemicals to clean the RICE COOKER.

I just HAD to comment on this little rice cooker! The footprint is small. Perfect for small spaces with little storage. HOWEVER, this rice cooker makes EXCELLENT rice! I made the 6 cups cooked max rice and it could not have turned out any better!! Plus, no overflow, no burnt rice, no sticky pan. It also took no longer (30 minutes) than rice on the stove took, and with none of the mess!! Tips: 1. Rinse rice with cold water til water runs mostly clear before adding to pot. Use the cup enclosed with your cooker to measure out the rice-NOT a usual U.S. measuring cup. There is quite a difference in size. Once rice is in pot, add water to water line on side of inner pot. Top with a small pat of margarine or butter, or a tsp. of oil. Mix gently. top with lid and hit the "on" button. When rice is done, it will automatically go to "warm" cycle. Leave for about 10 minutes. Then...ENJOY!! Unplug to cut off cooker. Great little machine that makes a HUGE amount of rice!! Very pleased with quality of machine and rice produced by this machine. Priced so well. Give it a try-you will love it!

I recently spent a week at my sister's house and she used this cooker to make rice for dinner. I ordered one immediately. I was impressed by how easy it was to make rice on the counter top. Just pour in rice and water and push the start button and "whalla" there's rice perfectly cooked. I've been using the boil in a bag type for just my husband and me. This is way easier and results are consistently great. And it's much cheaper to buy rice for the cooker. No more guessing, and it frees up the stove for other things. I also don't heat my kitchen up by boiling water. Clean up is definitely so so easy. No scrubbing has been required yet. Best of all, it's so easy I don't mind cooking rice much more often... better for you and less fattening than other starches. Any left overs go into a freezer sandwich sized bag, flattened (squared out) and placed in the freezer. Microwaves back to perfect steaming rice in no time at all. It just doesn't get any easier to make rice.

I'm a college student and really enjoy making my own meals (lets face it, college cafeterias can't uphold to the standards of a home cooked meal!). One thing that has turned into a staple for me is rice, plus I love to eat it. I always used to cook rice on the stove and it wouldn't turn out that great, so long story short I bought this. I'm planning to use it weekly and it's already been a huge help with meal prep. But I've already come up with some helpful tips for use!

1. Don't use cheap rice. If you don't have a choice then really rinse it and get a strainer made for rice. I used cheaper rice and then made expensive jasmine rice. Even though I rinsed the cheaper rice throughly, it still bubbled up and I had to stand next to the cooker. With the jasmine rice I had no problems. It was perfect!

2. Always rinse the rice no matter what! This is important! I recommend getting a strainer specifically made for rice. It comes in handy! Plus on Amazon you can get one for about $6!

3. Add some butter or olive oil. This is more a taste thing, but it also helps with stickiness if that's not your thing.

4. Don't add too much water, and absolutely use the measuring cup that came with the cooker for the rice. For 3/4 cups of rice you fill to 1 cup water on the rice cooker and so on and so forth.

5. Unplug when it's done! The warmer mode is alright, but leave it too long and the rice on the bottom will burn. Unplug when it's done and wait 5 minutes to remove the inner bowl. Also, use hot pads (it's hot).

Overall, I really like the convenience of this! I think if you have a small family of 1-3 people this rice cooker will be perfect for you. And if your a college student, this is really helpful. It can be used for more then just rice, so I really recommend it!

Okay, first a little background. Yes, I used my cute rice cooker and water boiled out the little steam vent and down the side of the pot to the counter. Messy. So then I went on-line and tried all the tricks I found: rinsing the rice first under cold running water, adding a little olive oil, and so on. Did these tricks work? No! THEN I came up with up what I considered a clever idea. I took a small piece of aluminum foil and covered the steam vent, tucking it under the lid's handle to secure it. It worked! The steaming water was contained and now collected on a small plate placed next next to the cooker. Easy. You know what's easier? KEEPING THE VEGETABLE STEAMER BASKET IN PLACE. Yes! That does it. Water doesn't boil out and over plus the rice still cooks.

Onto other pieces of business. This is my first rice cooker, so taking that into consideration, I like it fine. I got it for $11 from Warehouse Deals. I'd set ten bucks as the price I wanted to pay and had to wait awhile till I saw any rice cooker approach that ideal price. I've exclusively used it with  Bombay Basmati Brown Rice, 10-pounds Sack . When I put in two cups (using the special measuring cup that comes with the cooker), I fill the water to the half-way point between the 2 and 3 markings inside the pot, and that seems to be the right proportion for this particular brown rice.

The handle that you press down to start the rice cooker feels flimsy and cheap but so far it works. I've had my cooker about 2 months and have used it many times. On occasion I've steamed fresh vegetables and even frozen ones to accompany my rice and it's worked great. I was trying to get myself to eat more brown rice and vegetable-based meals and having this little cooker gives me the incentive. My brown rice seems to cook considerably quicker than it ever did in a pot on the stove AND the consistency isn't so gummy like the stove rice was. Lastly, clean-up is quick & easy with the pot's nonstick interior - I haven't had any problem with rice sticking and burning; I think the key is using the right amount of water.
