The genius that is David E Kelly and Boston Legal. There have been a handful of shows that I consider to be the very best of what television has to offer and Boston Legal is at the very top of the list.

At the centre of the show is the relationship between Alan Shore and Denny Crane. These charachers have so richly been brought to life by the remarkable talents of James Spader and William Shatner.

Who would have thought William Shatner of all people would go on to play one of the truly wonderful and eccentric characters on TV. You never know where the character is going to go, but you know you're in for one unbelieveable ride!

He is equally matched and more so in my eyes by that of James Spader. He continues to amaze me as to how he delivers superlative performances episode after episode. It's just staggering to watch his talent at work and it has been an absolute pleasure to have watched him in all his Alan Shore glory. During the 5 year run, he was at the very best of his game and not many could truly match him in this regard.

The relationship between the two is what makes the show truly great. Having watched the characters develop over the years, starting with "The Practice" has been pure joy and something that doesn't come along often.

I have also enjoyed watching the other characters througout it's run. It's great to see Candice Bergen display her wonderful talents yet again on the small screen. She gets better as she gets older! Her first episode on the show, "Schmidt Happens" is still one of my favourites and the banter between Bergen and Spader is one to behold.

Christian Clemenson and Tara Summers both deserve a special mention for both drawing out and making the characters of Jerry and Katie all their own. I could so easily watch both of them in their own spin-off!

And finally, the show would not be what it is without the glorious writing talents of David E Kelly. I just marvel at the writing and without it, there would be no Boston Legal.

As much as I hate to see the show disappear from the small screen so soon, it is better to get out on top and that is where it will always be!

All I have to say is if you remember the show Boston Legal then you will immediately love this series of DVD's. If you have no exposure then you should purchase one season after another. Season Five is no exception. Perhaps one of the best things about Boston Legal is that the writer has mixed comedy and lots of sexual inuendo with the legal problems of various clients. And to add to the fun, the clients and their legal problems are off beat also. One of the best things is that this show has no laugh tract when it was made or added to the DVD's. When my funny bone is tickled, I laugh. I don't like being told when to laugh via a laugh track. Nobody's profession is immune from attack from David E. Kelly (productions). You find qwirky people in the clients, lawyers, and the judges! There of course is an undercurrent of seriousness to every case depicted which rounds out the show. And the show does not play down to your intelligence. Buy it you will love it!

"Boston Legal - Series 5", mit den letzten Zwölf Episoden der Serie nehmen wir in der 5. Staffel Abschied von den Anwälten bei Crane, Poole & Schmidt.
Ich bin mir sicher, dass jeder Interessierter am Serienfinale im Original, keine Drang verspürt, über den Inhalt der Serie aufegklärt zu werden. Der uns allen bekannte Cast um Denny und Alan (die brillianten William Shatner und James Spader) sieht sich noch einmal mit den obskursten Fällen, Richtern, Problemen und Tragödien konfrontiert.

Der kreative Kopf hinter der Serie, David E. Kelly, bleibt liniengetreu am aktuellen Zeitgeschehen und spircht die Dinge an, die die USA und die Welt bewegen. Dies schlägt sich auch im angemessenen Finale der Serie aus, welche das Gesamtbild (Dennys häufige Aufforderung an Alan, immer "the big picture" zu sehen) abrundet.

Für jeden Fan ist diese Finale Season natürlich ein absolutes Muss. Allerdings kann man die Box natürlich nicht jedem empfehlen. Voraussetzung sind, zum vollen Dialogverständnis, gute bis sehr gute Englischkentnisse, aber eine genaue Grenze ziehen vermag ich nicht, dass liegt immer am vorhandenen Vokabular, auf das die Episode zurückgreift. Wie immer bei Serien in englischer Sprache, muss man zum vollen Verständnis, gut schnell Gespräche verfolgen können und um alle Witze zu begreifen, auch gesellschaftliche, politische und historische Hintergründe der "US of A" (Denny) kennen (nicht notwenig, aber die Witze sind häufig als Anspielung an solche Ereignisse angelehnt).

Die Box präsentiert sich in gewohnt guter Qualität. 4 DVDs inklusive Booklet mit der Episodenübersicht. Als Special Feature werden u.a. ein Schluss- Interviewteil mitgeliefert, in dem die Darsteller und Produzenten die vergangenen 5 Produktionsjahre noch einmal Revuee passieren lassen, sowie eine szenische Übersicht über die Freundschaft zwischen Denny und Alan, und darüber hinaus einige entfallene Szenen.
Einzige Sprache ist Englisch mit Untertiteln in dänisch, finnisch, norwegisch, schwedisch und englisch für Höhrgeschädigte- KEIN deutsch oder französisch!! Bild in gewohnter Qualität, 16:9.

Für alle des Englisch mächtigen nur zu empfehlen, voller Genuss ohnedies nur im Original!
Auf das bald auch die übrigen beiden Seasons in Deutschland erscheinen mögen und vielleicht ein größeres Publikum ansprechen- diese Serie hat es wirklich verdient, gesehen zu werden!!!

"Boston Legal" ein strahlender Stern am manchmal tristen Fernsehhimmel...
