To be fair, my baby will accept practically any bottle with some kind of nipple attached to it. We are spoiled for choice thanks to his tolerance for slow flow, fast flow, natural nipples, glass sides, BPA-free plastic or magic composites. However, the Comotomos are both the parental and the infant favourites in our household thanks to their innovative design, very broad nipple, and outstanding materials.
We ordered two of these to test how they worked, and ordered three more a few weeks later. These bottles feel durable and strong, right out of the package. Their soft silicone sides are completely forgiving to being dropped -- they bounce! Since baby is almost 6 months old, he's starting to hold bottles himself and he can get a much better grip on the non-slippery surface than his glass or plastic bottles. The materials don't fog up in the dishwasher either, and disassembling the parts to stick them in is a snap. The Comotomo bottle has only four pieces: bottle, nipple, plastic ring, lid. No fussing with inserts, bags, anticolic devices or the rest, and all the pieces are generously sized so a bottle brush fits right in. The neck ring is secure and gets a firm grip.
The baby loves the clear nipple. Its wide, domed design approximates the natural shape of Mom, so he had no trouble whatsoever going between nursing and bottle-feeding. We alternate because I work and he attends daycare, and he took to the Comotomos like a fish to water. The nipple rarely collapses or deforms due to his strong suck, a persistent problem with Evenflo and Medela brands. If it does, however, the perfectly designed thumb tab on the neck ring just needs a little nudge and air flows right back into the bottle. Presto, fixed. Baby gets few problems with sucking down excess air, which he suffered with our other bottles in greater proportion. We will be buying the upgraded flow nipples when he's ready for them.
These bottles go down well with everyone. His caretakers at infant-care love them for easy cleanup and the even heating in their bottle warmer. His grandparents find them easy to hold on to, even with some mobility issues (arthritis). They look great after two months of daily use and washing, not one scratch or nick, no cloudy appearance, no heavy wear. Friends can easily gauge how much he's eaten when they watch the baby, and no one is left struggling in the middle of the night trying to pull the lid off a slippery bottle. Seriously, the lid and body snap together like nothing, and even soaking wet (and sealed by my stronger husband), I can get the neck ring off one-handed. What more could you want?
If I had to change two things about these bottles, and these are minor quibbles, they would be to make the measure/gauge on the side more visible so I can tell where the topoff line is in low-light conditions (3AM bottle, anyone?); and to offer a blue colour to go along with neutral green and feminine pink.
