Speed? Well, at USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt capable, MUCH faster than any existing card and when invented, may even become a HS serial port adapter to boot. And speaking of booting, I may try to use an SDHC as an alternate OS intallation. Who (besides The Shadow) knows?
Oh, BTW, you insert the cards face down, with the contacts up. Very thoughtful design because you automatically inspect the contacts for integrity and debris while inserting and removing them. Nice feature, Cable Matters.
USB 3.0 is a such a nice speed upgrade over 2.0. I usually get 80-90 (or higher) MB/s transfer speeds, and essentially never less than 35-45 MB/sec. This is as compared to 10-20 MB/sec on USB 2.0.
I like that it only has the two common slot types: SD and micro-SD. That's all I need. The readers with 6 or 10 slots for a card types I never use just look clunky, fragile, and like dust magnets.
Not a huge fan of the short cable, but for some uses, that's preferred, I realize. Anyway, I bought a USB 3.0 extension cable for my application. That has worked fine so far (a few months in). Those USB 3.0 extension cables are pricey though.
This won't work on older phones with the MicroUSB slots, you must have a phone with a USB-C slot, or a computer with one, or an adapter that will allow USB-C devices to plug into MicroUSB or whatever slot your phone has.
ORIGINAL REVIEW (2 stars): I've grown increasingly skeptical of this card reader. I use it on my MacBook Pro. About half the time, works great -- no complaints. But the other half, it randomly ejects/disconnects while reading from my SD card. Sometimes these disconnects happen multiple times in quick succession. I'm very worried about data loss and/or damaging my SD card reader. Not happy.
