I find it very delightful that Amazon Prime offers such great shows as this one, and I'm looking forward to viewing more shows of this type. This is side-splitting stuff from the master. Forget about Jerry Seinfeld, Larry David is one pretty, pretty funny Jew, I tell you!!!!!!! This guy could write a whole series about a loaf of bread and it would be funny. The only job I envy, is working for Larry David as a writer.

The other day I asked a guy I know at a food stand in a vegan fair, if I could have a half serve because I had eaten so much that day that I felt stuffed, but I really wanted to try his dish. He was more than happy to give it me, and in fact, he didn't even charge me. A little later, a friend of mine who was working at the fair, asked if I would get her some cake from another stall, but they didn't have spoons, so I went back to the guy who gave me the small serve and asked if I could have one of his disposable spoons and he gave me a funny look and kind of begrudgingly said yes. I thought it was a bit strange until minute later, I realized that he was probably wondering, "why would he want a spoon for some food if he is already full and only wanted a small serve of my food". So the next day, I had to go back and order a full serve, just to make sure he was happy with me, because it was too hard to explain something that was probably not real anyway, maybe I misread his disgruntled look.

This is the type of every day confusion that Larry David writes about, but he gives it a test and then segues into the B, A or even C story so seamlessly, that you don't see it coming. It is hilarious.

Work with me on this! Remember how Lucy always got into a jam and how she tried to fix things and often made things worse. Enter Larry David and "Curb Your Enthusiasm." David so often tries to do the right thing, or to stand up for what is pragmatically, albeit trivially, just, only to have everything backfire. While "Lucy" was advanced in so many ways, it was still grounded in the 50s, but with an edge that made it unique and assured its long life in reruns. "Curb" is set squarely in this century, has show biz swirling in and out of the plots, and involves a character who can be lovable, creative, selfish, observant and prone to disaster all in the same episode. I feel it has a long life ahead of it, also. I admit, it took me a few episodes to "get it" and to become a hard-core fan. The DVD of the first season is an excellent package. In fact, I now want all the seasons to come out by next month or I'll be disappointed! Though I've seen all but two of these episodes on HBO, rewatching them---again with the comparison---reminds me of how I used to watch Lucy: repeated viewings of, for example, the candy factory episode, or the wine stomping episode, never got old. The laughs kept coming. With "Curb," I've watched the doll head episode, the baptism episode and the manger episode several times each and still laugh my ass off. When they come out on DVD, the laughter will continue. The world in these first years of the new century is a pretty scary and creepy place, no thanks to many of our elected officials, so having a guy like Larry David to take us away from it all for a half hour at a time is a good thing. Lucy did it 50 years ago. Larry David is doing it now. In my book that's one definition of a National Treasure.

Some negative responders just don't "get it" when it comes to this super show. Larry David is a "comedic genius" and that's why we LOVE THIS SHOW. But, to be able to enjoy and understand it, you need to be a "sensitive person"....you need to be a sensitive person to understand why Larry does what he does. See, we "sensitive people" get "irritated" by somethings that other people do or say....like people writing inane reviews as the one above. Usually we keep quiet and suffer! But, here's Larry David who EXPRESSES the irritation that we feel...that we are afraid to verbalize.....and he says somethings that we would like say to fight back with rude and irritating people.....even though when he does this it might seem rude to some people. And that's why we keep quiet and suffer in silence most of the time because we don't want to seem rude and irritating like the other person...and that's why we see Larry David as funny...he expresses what we secretly would like to express ourselves! You don't understand what I just wrote above and still think Larry David is NOT funny? Too bad for you! Ha...ha...ha!!!

I have to equate watching Larry David with drinking a Guiness. At first it has this nasty bitter taste. You drink a few more and all of a sudden, "you get it". I am a huge huge fan of Seinfeld. A friend of mine kept telling me about this show. I just couldn't get into it. Finally I sat my self down and forced myself to watch a few episodes on on-demand. All of a sudden, a little switch in my head clicked and I "got it". This show is like a spin-off featuring george costanze to the third power. I regret that I watched the third and fourth seasons before i watched the first. Now that I am watching the first season, I spend half the time on the floor lmao and can't wait for season 2 to come out on dvd. Like Seinfeld, this is the kind of show you can watch over and over again and not get bored. All I can say is give it a chance, bear with it for a few episodes, but it will be worth it. My favorite episode is the one with the cadaver sniffing dog in season 3 - "Larry David, you four-eyed F@#K!"

2000年に訪米したときに初めてテレビで見て以来、ずっとビデオ化を待ち望んでいました（DVDではリージョンが違うので見れません）。日本のテレビでは見られない斬新なコメディードラマです。巷で人気のドラマSex&Cityも同じHBOが製作してますが私は断然Curbを選びます。「むっつりすけべはげオヤジ」の主人公、ラリーはいつもとんだ災難に巻き込まれてしまいます。というか巻きもこまれるようなキャラクターなのでしょうか。ドラマでありながら造りっぽくなく、日常でも起こりうるような場面が面白く展開していきます。またアメリカ人の特徴描写もうまいです。本当は★５つとしたいところですが、何せ字幕・吹き替えなしなので英語力が要求され、その苦労分★を１つとりました。ただしこれを逆手にとると、英会話の教材としても楽しめます（ラリーを始め登場人物の英語は比較的聞き取りやすいのでこの点でもおすすめ）。次シリーズが待ち遠しいです。
