Best option currently available for MacBook Pro
After much review and purchasing and returning a couple others, this is the best option for the MacBook Pro. I tried a couple by Sandisk, but they would eject midway and weren't able to finish the transfer. This reader worked instantly and was able to complete the photo transfers right away, it was speedy and easy to use. I don't need the Micro SD, but there aren't any better options and it's still smaller than others even without MicroSD. I held off on purchasing this Verbatim because so many complaints about it not laying flat, but eventually I broke down and bought it and fortunately this wasn't an issue at all.For those of you worried about it not laying flat, this turned out to be a complete non issue, and possibly even a benefit. See photo - if instead of trying to lay it flat you let it face the other way, it keeps the natural position of the cord and it connects and fits easily. The benefit I discovered is that in this position it's actually easier to put cards in and take them out. With the Sandisk it did lay perfectly flat, but because you're trying to grab a tiny card against the tabletop, and your fingers can't fit underneath the card, it was too difficult to remove the card so I would have to lift the unit up or remove it entirely just to take out a card. With this one, you can more easily grab the card with your fingers because it's up off the table a bit. Not sure if that makes sense, but in the end this was not only more reliable but the connection position actually ended up being easier (and more compact). Hope that helps anyone struggling as I was to find a simple card reader after Apple got rid of them!!!

See photo - if instead of trying to lay it flat you let it face the other way, it keeps the natural position of the cord and it connects and fits easily. The benefit I discovered is that in this position it's actually easier to put cards in and take them out. With the Sandisk it did lay perfectly flat, but because you're trying to grab a tiny card against the tabletop, and your fingers can't fit underneath the card, it was too difficult to remove the card so I would have to lift the unit up or remove it entirely just to take out a card. Having lost a few card readers over the years to problems with built-in cables I appreciate the fact that this card reader has its connector attached directly to the board. If I could have all of these features plus UHS-II speed this would have been my perfect SD/MicroSD card reader.

This review is for the USB 3.0 version of this product. It is a compact SD/MicroSD card reader equipped with a Genesys Logic GL3233 USB 3.0 Single-LUN Memory Card Reader Controller capable of supporting up to UHS-I speeds. I am pointing this out because the question answered by the manufacturer in the Q&A portion of this product listing states that UHS-II speeds are supported without clarifying that this only applies to the USB-C version of this product. I'm sure this was not intentional on the part of Verbatim, but I was looking for a USB 3.0 UHS-II card reader and thought due to the answer in the Q&A that this would fit the bill. It is still a very useful, very portable SD/MicroSD card reader if you require speeds up to UHS-I and do not need the ability to read or write both card slots simultaneously.Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2020

After upgrading my PC with a USC-C slot, the speeds for downloading RAW files are blazing fast now! Thus far, I am very happy with this USC-C card reader. The plastic does feel rather flimsy, so we will see how it fairs when traveling, however, thus far it is working well as advertised.
