It's very difficult to review a 12 book series, so I'm not even going to try...

I have to say that what looked like another "alien abduction cliche" in book 1, turned out to be very clever and original way how to introduce a very interesting story. I personally did not expect that (the reason for abductions).

Later when you chew through few of the books in the series, you'll realize the plot is kind of repetitive. New planet, new fight ...same stuff all over again, but somehow it didn't bothered me enough to quit.
In 9th book it looked like it is over, but Kyle has a son, so suddenly you have a opening for whole new beginning.

The fact is, I will buy a book 13 (if there ever will be one) and I'm pretty sure even book 25 (I wish).

Larson is a pretty good yarn spinner. There are a few things that put me off though. For one, there are numerous typos and grammatical mistakes that are distracting. For another, there are often editing mishaps, which have an action being completed, which was stopped a page before. Finally, there are things like his problem with his pet robot using electroshock to program a population of intelligent microbes. He has already stated that the microbes are not sentient as individuals, but only as a communal organism. This means that he is not killing individuals with his shocks, but simply accelerating and guiding the evolution of the commune. Yet his character persists in feelings of guilt over the "killing of billions of microbes to save a single human life."

Larson's series is brilliantly creative. Many series become creatively stale and cliche as the plots and pages march on book by book. In the Star Force series you have an ever expanding exploration of unknown space with races and new technologies. Each book has been a pleasant surprise in that it seamlessly builds on the previous releases.

I have recommended this series to many people with the caveat that if they did not like them, I would pay for them. Thus far, the only books I have purchased the the ones I have read.

My only complaint is that we need more books faster. In a serial, that is the highest level of praise I can think of.
