Legal Disclaimer

Maximum wireless transmission rates are the physical rates derived from IEEE Standard 802.11 specifications. Range and coverage specifications along with the number of connected devices were defined according to test results under normal usage conditions. Actual wireless transmission rate, wireless coverage, and number of connected devices are not guaranteed, and will vary as a result of 1) environmental factors, including building materials, physical objects and obstacles, 2) network conditions, including local interference, volume and density of traffic, product location, network complexity, and network overhead and 3) client limitations, including rated performance, location, connection quality, and client condition. MU-MIMO capability requires both the router and client devices to support MU-MIMO. TP-Link AC4000 - Perfect as Access Points to Extend your Wireless Network

TP-Link AC4000 - Perfect as Access Points to Extend your Wireless Network
I have tried various products and work-arounds to extend our fiber gigabit wireless network with our 100 year old, three story home. But due to the old and very solid construction and the location of our fiber wireless router at the back of our house, key locations were out of wireless signal reach. But the TP-Link AC4000, and its family of TP-Link wireless routers, are rated highly by PC Magazine, NYTimes Wirecutter, and other notable technology review sources.I had been looking for a high-end wireless network router with the ability to extend our primary home network by simply clicking on a setting to activate the "use as access point" feature, plug the router into a wired network jack in my house (we wired key locations in our home. The TP-Link AC4000 allowed me to do exactly that - click the "use as access point" setting, plug into Ethernet jack on wall connected to my fiber router, and voila - Wireless in the back, front, upstairs and downstairs. Now we get on average 200-400Mbs download and upload speeds when before it was 10-20Mbs. (BTW: If we are desperate for faster speeds, we can wire into one of the four Ethernet ports on the back of the TP-Link AC4000!)In the interest of full disclosure - I bought two TP-Link AC4000s because the first one worked so well, I decided that I would buy the second and completely fix my weak wireless signal issue front and back, upstairs and downstairs. We could not be more happy with the TP-Link AC4000.

My first Archer A20 I ordered came in quickly and we immediately mounted it to the wall and started using it. It worked well for about 24 hours. After I got home from work the next day, I connected to the 5GHz-2 band and it quit broadcasting on the 2.4GHz and was not discovered after that for my devices. I emailed TP Link Support and we exchanged several emails as they helped me troubleshoot and gave some settings to try along with some good information. After that, I called Amazon (Saturday mid-afternoon) to see if I could return the router and they did a conference call with a TP Link customer service representative to try and help me work the issues out before returning it. TP Link determined the router to be defective and offered to send one out which I would receive in 3-5 days or let Amazon send one and receive it in 2. I chose Amazon and the replacement showed up at my house on Monday. The new one went right into service and I connected all of my devices once again. The new one has been working flawlessly for several days now without issue. The signal is much improved over my old Netgear and the speed is incredible. It handles the Roku 4 in one room, a Roku 3 in another and PS4 going at the same time as several Android phones and an iPhone. TP Link support via email took 7-8 hours to respond when we were communicating and they were knowledgeable and seemed familiar with their product. The TP Link representative I spoke with on the phone was almost as knowledgeable and was very pleasant to work with. Having to replace a brand new product can be a huge pain, but I can say I am satisfied with the service I received from all parties. I wasn't prepared to speak with TP Link when I called Amazon but I'm happy with the outcome.

This router is pretty awesome. I’ve been in IT over 25 years and deal heavily with networking and information security. I like the TP-Link line because the signal strength, security and QoS controls have always been integrated very nicely into the user interface.

This A20 is and upgrade to my older AC-3150 model. The user interface on this new model is similar with some added functions like “Smart Connect” that places both 2.4 and 5GHz networks under a single SSID, then assigns devices to the appropriate band to give the most throughout. Here’s the definition on Smart Connect:

“TP-Link Smart Connect allows the router to automatically assign connected devices to the Wi-Fi band that provides the fastest speed. By balancing the load and assigning devices to the most appropriate band, Smart Connect can reduce delays and interruptions.”

Pretty seamless. After turning on, a router reboot was needed but after the reboot I’m getting 100Mbps+ throughout my house and property.

The security controls are similar to
The older models with AV and content protection being provided by Trend Micro.

It has a wireless schedule so you and disable WiFi for certain devices on school nights.

Coverage was a big concern and with the antennas being fixed to the router I tested this thoroughly. I placed this in a closet centered on the second floor of my home. Coverage is impressive, covering 4,000 sq ft of house and 13k sq feet of property. Have a decent signal throughout my entire house.

    Very happy with this purchase.

I love the coverage and all round speed of this router. I have over 20 devices that are always doing something throughout a 4500 sg ft home. So I must say getting coverage through the entire house when the router is in the corner on the floor is genuinely impressive. Even at the furthest point away of the house I still get over 300 mbps on my android. Even just using one router I achieve higher speeds than any mesh system out there.

However the web ui and phone app need some serious help. Just about everything is there but poorly categorized. Also it needs lots of help in actual usability. 1 problem is that certain things that I consider basic are not in the basic options. Then the list of connected devices or any list in the options are not able to be sorted by any way whatsoever and even need pages to display them all. Then there is actually no proper list of connected devices.

The most important part of a router to me after initial speed and coverage are being able to see all my devices and what each one is doing in a quick easy to digest one page format. I know this can be done I have seen other routers do it. Sadly this will be the best router for the money/performance you can find so you will be stuck with the poor usability but have great internet to all devices.

This is my second TP-Link router. I upgraded because my last one did not support OTA Time Machine backups. This router is perfect for a home that measures about 1100 SqFt. The WiFi signal is strong and full internet speeds are pushed through the WiFi signal. I have many wireless devices and none of them drop or fail to connect.

It uses beamforming, via its antenna layout, to ensure proper WiFi strength and coverage for all devices connected. I have a 300 Mbps downlink connection and speed tests over WiFi reveal the full utilization of those speeds. Make sure your devices support the same wireless technologies sported by this router. Setup is easy and it includes third party support for passive network monitoring to protect against connected hijacked devices or malicious threats.

Aesthetically speaking, it’s great to marvel at because its size justifies it power. An odd assessment but it satisfies basic laws of symmetry. I have tried other routers from Cisco and Netgear but they fail to impress. I recommend TP-Link to everyone I know and to you, the reader, as well. This specific model, hell yeah!
