Product Description
Bonusmaterial:
Featurettes, Deleted Scenes, Bilder Galerien, Audiokommentar, u.v.m.

“God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players [i.e. everybody], to being involved in an obscure and complex variant of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.“
But let's talk about the elephant in the room-or rather, the conspicuous absence of a certain figure from the heavens. That's right, I'm talking about the conspicuous absence of a Christ character in modern entertainment. In the good place, supernatural and others, the entertainment industry seem hell bent on omitting the main man of history from the plot. The closest thing I've seen to this may be Xenk in Dungeons and Dragons.
A modern take on a Jesus God could add a lot to the universe and as seen with the success of a series like the Chosen there is demand for the topic. Without a Jesus character, heaven is understandable about as stale as a corporate office on a Monday morning, while hell gets the creative energy with its fiery pits and gruesome disgusts. What is lacking here and in so many stories is an equally lively and creative heaven. Would it be so difficult to portray a modern, classy Christ character who's part relatable, part funny, commanding yet extremely empathetic. A great show otherwise.
Season 2 takes a sharp turn down preachy Lane. Making the central theme a conflict of ‘social progress’ with a plot that is is both unrealistic and un-relatable for most watchers and alienates a large swathe of the population and really ruined the second season for me. While Season 1 of 'Good Omens' remains a delight, Season 2 could use a little less preaching and a lot more entertainment. We'll see if they can bring it back for the third but I remain skeptical even they can pull off a miracle of that size.
The second season sets up the sequel story that Neil and Sir Terry had planned, but never wrote, and despite having a somewhat different tone from the first season, season two was an absolutely mesmerizing watch. Trading some of season one's shenanigans for a somewhat more human, grounded story about earthly struggles, moral quandaries, and love, season two raises a lot of questions that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time, and absolutely desperate for the release of season three. If you like nuanced British comedy with a bit of zaniness on the side, focused around a slow-burn deep character relationship surrounded by witty social commentary, I can't recommend Good Omens enough.
In a move widely regarded as a betrayal on the order of Brutus to Caesar, creator Neil Gaiman described season two before its release as "quiet, gentle, and romantic." Which is true right up until the point it's the opposite of that. It's wonderfully written and acted, and it will rip your still beating heart from your body.
***A special note for all my former Destiel/Johnlock/etc. shippers out there***
If you had your little gay heart's hopes dashed by shows such as Sherlock, Supernatural, Merlin, Teen Wolf, and Hannibal, you need look no further than Good Omens (or for that matter Our Flag Means Death - both are great and very gay). Yes they are two genderless eternal beings, not human males as Neil always reminds us, but obviously in all the cultural senses that will most likely matter to you, Crowley and Aziraphale are gay and canonically romantically in love. Your gay heart will be broken and laying on the floor by the end of season 2, but it will also be very validated.

If you have any appreciation for the way Neil Gaiman's mind works, the fantastical worlds/characters he creates and describes - in this case with Terry Pratchett -, then this trip to Armageddon will will prove very satisfying. Check your religious beliefs at the door, though, it's all meant in jest.
Season two was another joy ride, albeit with a heartbreaking end, and I look forward to the day I can set it beside this very entertaining tale.
Check both seasons out on Prime and support a third season!
