When the Lion Roars Kindle Edition

Awaken to the sound of God's voice and take up the journey to a rich and full lifeHow can I open myself to awareness? What if I have encountered God in some profound way? Which experiences are from God and which are of my own making? Are there right andwrong ways to pray? What about my ordinary life in the everyday world?

"Mystics are not part of a small elite society.... Rather, they are people who have come to experience the intense, personal desire God has to share himself with us." In this powerful guide, Msgr. Stephen Rossetti reminds us that becoming a mystic is not a matter of learning some "mystical secret," but of entering into the divine simplicity of God's unbounded and unrestrained love. This invitation is for all of us. In a series of practical, readable chapters, Rossetti addresses the many questions and concerns that arise on the path to deeper prayer. He draws carefully from the wisdom of scripture and uses his broad knowledge of mystical writers, from the Desert Fathers to Therese of Lisieux, to guide us on a road we may never have expected to take. Writing from his own experience of prayer and from his expertise as a spiritual director and therapist, he helps us arrive at a deeper understanding of ourselves as wounded and sinful people who are nevertheless caught up in the transforming love of God."

Monsignor Rossetti lays out a path that is both approachable and challenging to novice and journeyman alike. After a thorough read with highlighting and note taking I plan future reads with an increasing depth of reflection.

The author offers some good advice on how to proceed down the Christian path of spirituality without alienating family, friends, or coworkers. You don't have to become a hermit to be a mystic.

This is an amazing book about being an everyday mystic. Rahner once said that the 21st Century Catholic will be a mystic or s/he will be nothing at all. Rossetti has captured the essence of being a mystic for the ordinary person. This is a well-written, very easy-to-read book for beginner to the experienced prayer. I loved the title and I know the author. The book is one which I return to whenever I need a touch of reality in my daily prayer. I believe that we are all called to be mystics --in the best sense of that word.

To be a short book of only 158 pages, Fr. Rossetti writes about mysticism in a full and compelling way, defining mysticism and who true mystics are. He writes about undesirable responses to God's grace, warning the faithful to beware of pride and hubris when having a close, mystical experience with God. The book is inspiring and powerful. Read on a Kindle, the highlighting feature was used heavily on almost every page. Highly recommended.
