Functional and affordable
When it comes to microphones I've learned that you have to know what you can reasonably expect based on the cost of the microphone you are using. I'll list the cons of this mic first but just keep in mind that it's an incredibly inexpensive mic and receiver, so don't rule it out immediately based on the negatives.The build quality feels cheap. The plastic of the housing has the feeling of being kind of brittle and I don't think it would withstand many drops on hard surfaces. The grill at the top is metal and feels nice though.It is also very lightweight which adds to the cheap feel, however if you're going to walking around holding it up to your face for long periods of time that might not be the worst thing.The microphone body will transfer the sounds of your hands moving along the body of the mic, so it's important to find a grip that's comfortable and don't move your hands around or you'll hear it coming out of the speaker.The other issue I noticed is that if you speak too loudly into the mic the sound will sometimes cut out.Pros:The price point is tough to beatThe sound quality is good. Both myself and a female friend of mine tested it and both of voices came through very clearly.It's very easy to set up and use. You just plug in the receiver and turn it on and turn on the mic and you are good to go.There are multiple channels to use in the event that you are picking up interference, though that never happened to me while I was using it so far.There range is pretty good, though if you bring the mic too close to the receiver it'll make a loud feedback sound. I used this predominantly with a portable amp that has a belt clip but I wouldn't recommend having the mic that close to the receiver.There's a small display in the microphone that shows you the channel you are on and the battery life which is nice and easy to read.Barrett life seems really good too, though I haven't really been keeping track of the exact amount of time it lasts.If you are looking for an inexpensive mic to use during a social gathering or function then this is an excellent option that I would recommend. If you are looking for a solution for Chicago recording or podcasts or something like that, then I would look at a different USB or XLR option.
