The Provider (The Provider Saga Book 1) Kindle Edition
Growing up quickly, Will provided whatever his mother and sister needed, whether that meant putting food on the table, fixing a leaky roof, or driving off troublemakers.
This became more than Will’s duty. It became his identity.
Then war took him away.
Now, Will’s coming home to Texas.
Caring for his family and the intriguing young woman next door will be a tall order. The economy is dead, corrupt bluebellies are on the prowl, and old enemies want Will’s land, his women, and his life.
It’s enough to break a man.
But Will Bentley is no ordinary man. He is The Provider.
The Provider is a classic Western with a touch of romance. It’s perfect for fans of C.J. Petit and R.O. Lane.
“John Deacon writes the kind of Westerns I like to read—gritty and fun with lots of heart.” — Don Bentley, New York Times Bestselling author of the Matt Drake series, Tom Clancy Jack Ryan, Jr. novels, and the Vince Flynn Mitch Rapp series

About the author
I was born six months before man landed on the moon. I was blessed to grow up in the country, where my family lived largely off the land.
When I wasn’t fishing, exploring the woods, or weeding the garden, I devoured comic books like Two-Gun Kid and The Rawhide Kid before moving on to the exciting adventure stories of Jack London and Louis L’Amour.
Our black-and-white TV got three channels, though you could lose one and pick up another if you went outside and messed with the antenna. On its grainy screen, we watched Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and movies starring John Wayne and Clint Eastwood.
Now a husband and father, I love exploring the West and reading history and fiction alike. My favorite authors are Louis L’Amour, Elmore Leonard, C.J. Petit, and R.O. Lane.
As a writer, I hope to entertain you with fun stories of the old West. My good guys are good, my bad guys are bad, and you’ll always find a touch of romance to sweeten the grit.

Deacon does an excellent job developing characters and his fast-paced, action-packed, and a compelling storyline.
Dying, Will Bentley’s father begged him to provide for his wife, Angela “Mama” Bentley and his little sister, Rose Bentley and Will promised him he would. After the civil war where he served as a confederate soldier, he worked as a manual laborer and lived as frugally as possible so that he could send money to a Texas bank to provide for his mother and sister. After receiving word from his mother requesting that he come home immediately because now 18-year-old Rose had been kidnapped. Upon arrival he learns that the bank had been robbed, his family was forced out of their home, and a carpetbagger moved in after paying taxes that we’re unpaid by his mother.
Will’s sister was kidnapped by a rich old geyser named Isaac Pew who intended to marry the girl once his wife, who was on her deathbed, died. Will quickly rescued his sister and became the target of the old man who urged Sheriff Rickert to arrest Will.
Rose’s neighbor and best friend, now a beautiful 18-year-old, Maggie Dunne was visiting with the Bentley’s when her entire family was murdered and her home was burned to the ground by Jafford Teal’s ex-confederate raiders, having been hired by Will’s childhood Nemesis, Sully Weatherspoon after Maggie rejected his unwanted romantic antics.
Now living in a lawless, corrupt town occupied by union soldiers, and the rich and powerful men, Will found himself a target of enemies and outlaws who he must fight to continue providing for his family.
Don’t miss this spellbinding tale. It is a gem.
Fun, captivating and fulfilling to read.
