Bushwa Kindle Edition

From the bestselling author of Old Dogs and The Accidental Sheriff comes the captivating Western novel, Bushwa!

In the rugged expanse of the New Mexico Territory in 1862, two unlikely friends emerge from the chaos of the Civil War. Obadiah “Bushwa" Sparks, a banjo-playing scalawag with a talent for staying alive, and Win Evans, an earnest Iowa farmboy, embark on a new adventure together but just as quickly find themselves compelled to part ways.

While Bushwa must navigate survival amongst the Apache, Win becomes entangled in a web of espionage and romance . . . a life far from his Iowa roots. As these two storylines collide, Ron Schwab weaves a tale of adventure, humor, and intrigue against an unforgiving landscape.

Get ready for a gripping Western where alliances are forged, loyalties are tested, and the pursuit of freedom takes unexpected turns!

It seems like most of Ron Schwab's novels have been set in the era immediately post-Civil War, with westward expansion, and Civil War veterans from both sides aplenty. Bushwa is the backstory for a character that appears in later books, and takes place in the early years of the Civil War, as the Confederacy is trying establish a foothold in the West, and the Union is trying to prevent that.

Bushwa, of course, is a colorful character, but one of the charming things about this book is that it introduces us to new characters who will hopefully play a role in future books. Win and Ren become a couple, and could, undoubtedly, provide us with many more stories in their New Mexico Territory home after Bushwa has left for Wyoming.

Great character development, just enough history to teach us all a little bit about the unknown "western front" of the Civil War, and a story that splits friends Bushwa and Win apart for a while, telling both of their stories on parallel paths, until they meet up again and say goodbye.

An quick read for a cold afternoon or a couple of evenings!

This novel was excellent, a real classic Western. Ron Schwab is a great writer and presents an exciting historical tale of life during the Civil War in Texas near the Rio Grande River. Action and Romance, a good combination.

Historical fiction is always interesting and this one is. Never knew much about the war in the West, but people fought and died and should be remembered.

BUSHWA is a great story, and doesn't really end on a cliffhanger, but you know there's got to be more before he makes his way to Lockwood.
He's sort of a decent man and friend. Especially if he can make a profit. And he usually does, but. And it's the buts that make it such a good read.
Loved all characters and their stories.
If you like to read C.J. Petit or James Leonard you'll love Ron Schwab. They all know where to stop a story and leave their readers wanting more. *sigh*

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, pity it was short in length. No matter good characters and a good story. I wonder if we will meet Win and Ren again in a new story, perhaps Bushwa as well .
