Doc McCoy: A Classic Western Adventure (Westward Western Saga) Kindle Edition

A classic western novel from Frank Wheeler with non-stop epic adventure and a blend of western romance

Dr. Ambrose McCoy spent four long years saving the lives of wounded soldiers, but he could not save his own wife when she grew ill.
If not for his friend Kodiak, he’d have given up hope. Now, Doc’s got a new job protecting a rich rancher named Winston Strauss, and his beautiful daughter, Evangeline.

There’s just one catch.

Every gunslinger that Mr. Strauss has hired before now was either killed or run off by Axl Dutch, an equally wealthy rancher driven by greed and revenge.
Dutch believes there’s a mythical silver vein running through the heart of Strauss’s land, and he’s determined to find it by any means necessary.

Everyone knows the silver isn’t real, but Strauss is definitely hiding something. And the more Doc tries to investigate, the more danger he faces.

Not just from Dutch, but a man known only as the Phantom.

Evangeline is the one caught in the middle, and her life is being threatened. The townsfolk of Silver Creek don’t know who to believe, or whose side to take.
Is it possible the mythical silver mine is not so mythical after all?

Each novel in the series is a standalone western which can be read out of order.

This is a good western story. Way too many paragraphs and double-spacing. I guess that adds to the page numbers, but it is very distracting for me.

The story brings to life the tatters civil war veteran's change and redemption to a conclusion. From war and death of his wife throws the veteran into a downward spiral. His friend offers him a change, and the change brings out the hero in him. Enjoy.

Wow! What a ride. Right from the beginning the adventure started and then it was all about hanging on! Once Kodiak Reed came back into Ambrose's life after the War, the novel was a non-stop roller coaster of mystery, intrigue, and abrupt twist and turns. Doc was no gunslinger, but he was a great strategic planner and purposeful schemer. There were times when I had to rethink how some things were playing out, but Mr Wheeler always filled in the missing facts very quickly. There are so many subplots at times that my head was spinning, but in the end they all came together and I could see where the author was leading. There was the ranch, the elusive silver mine, the struggling town of Silver Creek, the evil psychopath, the growing love affair, and the Phantom. All together they combined for quite an incredible ride providing a lot of entertainment for the reader. Enjoy, I sure did.

It seems that western authors of recent times are having a contest with each other to see who can write the most far fetched stories . Realism and historical significance go right out of the window. Maybe I am just too old but I find characters called the "phantom" a bit childish. Of course, that might be the target audience for this book. Children. What I can't get over is how insignificant it is to get shot. If the bullet doesn't kill you, you just reach in and pull it out, slap some mud on and get back in the fight. A week later it's all healed up.

Action, action, action. The Phantom had everyone fooled. Doc had most of it figured out. Good triumphs over evil. It always does.

Mister Wheeler took a man who had lived through the Civil war but shortly misfortunes greets him at home but he survives and thrives. Enjoy

Where was the U.S. Marshall or Army? Any didn’t Doc just shoot the bad guys? Too much shooting for reality.

Don’t bother with this one unless you want to read a 373 page book that should have taken half that many pages. The villains somehow magically appear and disappear. Stop it !! Insane.
