2.0 out of 5 stars1960's RomCom
Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2020
I'm just not a fan of the 60's movies for the most part. There are a few that are okay but this isn't one of them. The rom-coms especially are always a trifle silly with lots of fluff. I don't like either Fonda or Redford personally but they have shown great acting talent in movies with more depth. This is NOT a good vehicle for either one. Fonda over-acts and is just annoyingly hyper-active, over-sexed (and not in a good way), and way, way too talkative. She'd drive me nuts. I can't see anybody in real life looking forward to coming home to this night after night.
Redford plays a stuffy lawyer fresh out of law school. I never enjoyed Newman in these silly light weight movies and Redford doesn't fare any better. Both of those actors need meaty roles that use their exceptional talents. When I think of Redford roles, I think of the Sting, Butch Cassidy and Out of Africa, The Horse Whisperer, to name a few.
Like the majority of 6o's movies, this doesn't pass the test of time. Heck, they barely passed in the sixties when I was a teen.
The movie took several weeks to arrive, was made in Mexico (Amazon doesn't tell this any more), but played fine. It isn't a bad picture but looks pretty much, I'm guessing, about the quality of the technology of the 60's.
If you like silly, chat, annoying, over-acted, You'll like this.
