2.0 out of 5 starsOverrated With Obvious and Obnoxious Agenda

I had no knowledge about this show prior to watching it (didn't see any trailers, reviews, etc.). I loved the movie and this series popped up in my suggestions so I thought I'd give it a shot.
The storyline started out ok but quickly switched to show indicative of the times. That is to say, the agenda was clearly twofold items that are politically driven over the last several years — racism and sexuality (lesbians, in this case). Now, I don't have an issue with having an open dialogue about these topics, or seeing movies representing any group of people, but being billed as a "League of Their Own" offshoot instead of a show deliberated created to push social comfort in an adult coming-of-age drama is just misleading. Sexuality: Fine. Racism: Fine. But neither topic needs to be crammed down our throats as filler for each 50-minute episode. They might as well just make it a fictional fantasy set in another dimension.
Also, the sarcasm and tone sound like the way people talk in today's world, not in the 1930-40s. Modern writers are trying to write like comedians but they don't have humor, only sarcasm. It's sad and doesn't sound like the way people spoke during the period.
Aside from all that, I did give it two stars, mainly because the shots, cinematography, costumes, etc., were very timely, and I like to see accurate representations of historical scenes.
If you want something to watch that isn't absolutely terrible while you only mildly pay attention to what's going on, you can still give it a watch... Or just find something better.
