Story
Laura thought she’d found the one nice guy in New York City. When Ethan saves her from a crushing crowd on Brooklyn Bridge, their connection is dazzling. Worthy of a heat-filled passionate night. Laura falls pregnant from their one-night stand—a miracle considering her past fertility issues. Ethan is attentive and wonderful at first. She hopes he will be the kind of father she’d always wanted for herself. Until his attentiveness turns to obsession. His questions become demands. Why didn’t she answer her phone or respond to his messages? Why won’t she move in with him and his rich mother?

This was so well written and so touching. I feel so hard for the author but she turned her life into dedication to help others. I can’t wait to see other stories of hers and fully support her! From a 2nd or 3rd grade education as a young woman to now inspiring MASTERS degree? Wow! You’re an inspiration. (It’s been 5 years since publishing I gaurentee she got it if she chose to keep going for it)

The Christmas party at the Sea Glass Inn is a long-held tradition, one the townspeople of Blackbird Beach consider the kick-off of the Christmas season. Until, of course, the inn closed, and the party stopped happening. Now Georgia Carpenter has decided it’s time to restart that tradition, even though the party is a massive undertaking and one that will influence how people feel about the inn for the rest of the year. Story
North Korea is isolated and hungry, bankrupt and belligerent. It is also armed with nuclear weapons. Between 150,000 and 200,000 people are being held in its political prison camps, which have existed twice as long as Stalin’s Soviet gulags and twelve times as long as the Nazi concentration camps. Very few born and raised in these camps have escaped - but Shin Dong-hyuk did.

The first 2 chapters are not the story I recommend skipping. I’m honestly not sure how I made it through the whole book tbh. The narrator/author is soooooo unbelievably monotone it’s literally insane. And does not stop for any punctuation which also makes it harder to listen too. You get to the end of a 45 min chapter thinking it was one sentence.

I suffered through the first episode and it’s fucking terribleeeeee. *BARF* she is so disgusting, rude, unloving, to the child. (My friends don’t like you, pondering him off to get her hair done, talking to him like he’s a complete inconvenience and such) I literally wanted to scream hearing this. It’s HORRIBLE. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!

Story
Here is the astonishing, never-before-told story of the greatest rescue mission of World War II: when the OSS set out to recover more than 500 airmen trapped behind enemy lines. During a bombing campaign, hundreds of American airmen were shot down in Nazi-occupied Yugoslavia. Local Serbian villagers risked their own lives to give refuge to the soldiers, and for months the airmen lived in hiding, waiting for rescue.

The rescue story’s itself were great. And it transitioned well into a history of what all was happening BUT as someone who doesn’t follow well with those kinds of things simply because I don’t understand it all the middle of the book was hard to hold on during. The beginning and end were wonderful though.
