An electrical fire at the Pima County Adult Detention Center forced the evacuation of nearly 400 inmates and a handful injured, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said.

The blaze started in the Main Jail Annex Friday around 8:30 p.m. in an area that did not house any inmates.

Pima County Sheriff's Department said around 380 inmates were evacuated while the Tucson Fire Department extinguished the fire.

All evacuated were medically cleared, PCSD said, and two corrections officers were transported to a local hospital for further assessment. On-scene emergency responders were treating others.

Detectives from the PCSD arson unit responded to investigate the cause of the fire. The jail remained secure on Friday.
