Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are throwing their energies into You Can Play, a campaign aimed at erasing homophobia in sports, music and entertainment.
The Seattle-based duo behind the global hit “Thrift Shop” are now fronting a promo currently doing the rounds on YouTube. In the brief clip, Mackelmore tells it straight – homophobia is simply not right.
“Don’t let begin gay hold you back. If you’re straight, do not hold others back,” he says. “Anti-gay language has no place in sports, or music. If you can play, you can play.”
Macklemore is filmed performing at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Feb. 1, playing-up to the crowd in a vintage Gary Payton Seattle Supersonics replica singlet.
Dozens of athletes have shot videos for the You Can Play Project, but Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are apparently the first musicians to participate.
