I would go so far as to say that the UU love is the very opposite of True Love and perhaps the biggest snare the devil has put out for christians especially.

anyway, great post. I wish more people understood the importance of it.

@Laeth - It's the seductiveness of abstraction - again...

And how prone we are to it, since at least the Ancient Greeks (and especially those most able to do it - ie. those of higher intelligence/ 'g'.)

I would say Jesus explicitly condemned the UU love when he said in John 4:20 "If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?" He is condemning those who use the abstract and theoretical to deny the personal and real.

@Bruce,

thank you. will read those carefully.

@William,

indeed. and I think he condemned UU love on the part of God when he said 'a man's enemies will be those of his own household'.

@Laeth - BTW As always, my ideas change - especially up to c2014. I was not a Christian when I wrote the Clever Sillies article published 2009 and for a psychometrics readership (or, at least, being Christian did not affect the writing of it).

@William - I don't see any trace of UU-Love anywhere in the Bible. I think UU began to emerge from the late 1700s, and among non-conformists such as Quakers and Unitarians.

Agreed that the thing itself, especially in its modern form, is not there, but Jesus would have been aware of human tendencies to stray from the straight and narrow path and so could have made remarks that can be applied to later developments in spiritual error. He was clever!

That is a key characteristic of our woke socialists. The claim to love the poor (or similar group), but only the abstract group, not their poor neighbor,
