Seems to be what we wish for as well. Remembrance.

@M - Yes, remembering; but I mean a great deal more than that. More like an active collaboration.

So remembering, that the dead are still a part of the living, ongoing divine creation?

@TYM - Yes, that's the first step. *Then* doing something about it!

Can you direct me to the interview that you are referring to please? Thank you. I've recently become aware of Steiner. As a Christian, I have wondered if digging into his work is beneficial or will just be confusing. I've decided to proceed with an open mind and a guarded heart. That's how I happened upon your blog :)

If it's the same thing an atheist would do (remembering, living well to honour them, etc.), then I think it's not enough. If it's compatible with believing that they're gone from this world, no longer a real being, no longer any true connection, then it's not enough.

"It" in my comment being our actions done to fulfil our duty to the dead. We can believe that when someone dies they are just gone and still remember them, "keep them alive" in our memories, live well to honour their memory, etc.; all of that is possible without an actual connection with the dead, and so I was suggesting this as a way of checking whether our duty to the dead is being fulfilled. Partly in response to some of the other comments.

I hope that's clearer.
