30 Things For Anyone Who Loves Their Freezer

Even if you don't have a chest freezer yet — then you'll be living the dream.

    1. rapid defrosting tray so you won't have to put off cooking because your meat is still frozen. Put down the pizza place phone number and get back to your we-have-food-at-home plans.

Promising review: "I was a little concerned this was going to be one of those gifts that were hyped up but it’s not. It’s not going to thaw a huge chunk of meat in an hour but I have thawed a chunk of chicken in a few hours. The product itself isn’t very thick which I like as it doesn’t take up a lot of space for storage. It doesn’t warm up, but pulls the cold from the meat, which makes the product thaw (like putting meat in cold water to thaw it faster and not cook it)." —Savannah A.

Get it from Amazon for $18.88

    2. Stackable, modular freezer cubes to help you bulk stash all kinds of delish leftovers you wanna save for Future You. Your freezer doesn't have to be aesthetic, but these'll help.

Containers with frozen meals: curry, rice with herbs, strawberries in a freezer-safe container, and other frozen items on a wooden surface
Various food items stored in clear plastic containers inside a fridge, labelled in a product storage and organization article

This set includes one small (holds 2 cups), one medium (holds 5 cups), and one large (holds 8 cups). Their soft-touch silicone makes for an easy release when it's time to reheat and eat. You can write on 'em with dry-erase markers. And, they're dishwasher-safe!

Promising review: "I love using these freezer cubes to batch cook on the weekends when I have more time. It's great to prep a bunch of bulk recipes for future me to enjoy! I love that I can write what's inside and the date so I can easily see and grab what I need, and I am glad they stack and store easily, making pulling things out of my freezer or fridge easy, with no avalanche of bags and containers." —Maggie

Get them from W&P for $25.

    3. Plus, a dishwasher-safe silicone soup cube tray that'll hold one cup of delicious hot entrees like soup/chili/stew/sauce per cube so you can freeze and then reheat it later, then dump it in a thermos for a ~controversial~ toasty lunch in this heat.

Promising review: "I'm extremely happy with my Souper Cubes! I cook chili and soup and always make too much, having the ability to freeze serving-size portions is perfect. Saves time and food quality by not having to thaw it all each time I want another serving. High quality and since it's silicone and not rigid plastic it won't crack in the freezer. Highly recommend!" —Alexander S. Waterman

Get it from Amazon for $19.95 (available in three colors and packs of two).

You shouldn't throw everything in bins, but this starter set will give you a leg up in the orderly direction. With these bins, you can pair like with like and prevent some major freezer disorganization.

Promising review: "Amazed at the difference these bins have made in my refrigerator and freezer organization and space. I have recently transitioned from a large French Door refrigerator with lots of space to a side-by-side. I was very frustrated with the reduced space, and it was always a mess. Now, my clear bins are easy to organize and help me keep like things together on both sides of the refrigerator." —janieknits46

    7. brilliant ice tray to make ice cubes more quickly than your average ice tray. But wait, we haven't gotten to the best part — you can pour your ice out without ever having to touch the cubes!

Just fill the bottle-shaped ice maker with water, stick it in the freezer, pop the sides once the water is frozen, and pour the cubes into your glass. Icebreaker is a small biz based in Texas that sells this genius ice cube solution!

Promising review: "We have a small freezer and no icemaker and have been using fiddly trays for years. Icebreaker Pop has changed everything! No more leaky ice trays spilling in the freezer or on the way to the freezer, and no ice picking up weird smells and tastes from the freezer. Icebreaker Pop is self-contained and easy to use: you fill it up with water (but be careful not to overfill, because it does expand as it freezes. Physics!) Then seal the top, and put it in the freezer. Once it's frozen, you lay it on a flat surface, press down hard on it a couple of times on each side to crack the ice, and pull apart with both handles. You now have 18 cubes of clean ice that dispense from the opening, eliminating the need to touch the cubes as you add them to your glass. The cubes are a little smaller than from regular ice trays, but that's OK with us. Icebreaker Pop is also cool-looking and easy to clean; it's made up of three easy-to-separate pieces that are a snap to wash thoroughly. Very happy with this product!" —Leah Koepp

Get it from Amazon for $19.99+ (available in five colors).

    8. Freezer bags that, IMO, will 99% of the time be the easiest way to store leftovers in minimal space. Lay them flat to freeze into shape and you'll be able to stack and store so much food in a compact space.

    Elizabeth Lilly / BuzzFeed

I'm lucky to live solo now and can do WHATEVER I WANT with my fridge and freezer. But, because I'm grocery shopping and eating solo, I end up with a lot of leftovers I get sick of before they go bad. So I end up freezing tons of leftovers in these quart-size bags. Here, I had a honey chipotle chicken dish from a Blue Apron kit that I could only eat one serving of during the week I cooked it. I shovel in the leftovers, seal out as much air as possible, zip it shut, and then lay it horizontally on a freezer shelf (or on top of a frozen pizza box, etc.), so it freezes flat. Then, once frozen, I can file them vertically or move them as I need 'em. I even rewash the bags and use 'em over and over again. (Grandma Lilly would be so proud!) When you do this, don't forget to label the bags!

Get a 120-pack of quart bags from Amazon for $8.56 (also available in gallon sizes).

Psst, if you make a mess every time you try to shovel food into a ziplock bag, try these bag holders.

It fit perfectly in the space that was left!!!! I organized my packages of food in the rack. It all fit perfectly. I love how sturdy it is, and easy to adjust. "I use these in my BruMate and Meoky cups, and they fit perfectly. I always struggle with getting my straw through the ice and in the middle so the lid will close. These ice cubes stay on the edge of the cup and allow plenty of room for the straw." —sarah schultz
