Man arrested in connection to Rainbow Crosswalk vandalism in midtown Atlanta
ATLANTA, Ga. (CBS46) – A man has been arrested after barricading himself inside an apartment in midtown Atlanta. Police believe the man is the person responsible for the vandalism of the famous Rainbow Crosswalk.
The rainbow crosswalks at 10th and Piedmont in Atlanta, are more than strips of color in a busy intersection.
When they are vandalized twice in less than 48 hours, people care. People show up to show, they care.
“We are Israeli. We are Jewish. We support LGBTQ and we are proud,” Anat Sultan-Dadon, Consul General of Israel to the Southeastern United States told CBS46 News.
“This is a location that means tolerance for our city, this is a community, this is inclusiveness. When someone with hate in their heart defaces it, it’s condemned by the Mayor. It’s condemned by the police department,” said Interim Atlanta Chief Of Police Darin Schierbaum.
During PRIDE, hundreds of thousands of people cross through the 10th and Piedmont intersection as part of the parade.

A police investigation is underway in a busy section of midtown Atlanta Friday afternoon.
Police have blocked off a section near Third Street and Peachtree Street. Traffic is being diverted from the area.
According to Atlanta police officials, “units are investigating a suspected barricaded person.”
There are no additional details. No information was provided by police as to what led up to this incident.
