Ja'Lynn Polk NE WR
Patriots' Ja'Lynn Polk: Clear path to No. 1 role?
22h agoPolk could secure the Patriots' top receiver spot to open the 2024 regular season if he impresses in training camp, Chad Graff of The Athletic reports.
Polk, a rookie second-round pick, didn't begin the offseason working as a starter but has since worked his way up the depth chart, and he was a standout at mandatory minicamp. The Washington product is considered pro-ready as rookie, so though his combine workout numbers didn't strongly impress, he's refined enough to quickly hit the ground running and entrench himself as one of New England's most reliable targets in the passing game, especially if Kendrick Bourne (knee) isn't fully recovered from his ACL tear by Week 1. Graff projects Polk to get a large portion of first-team reps in training camp, so if he can translate that into some preseason momentum, it wouldn't be surprising for him to start the season ahead of Bourne, DeMario Douglas, K.J. Osborn, JuJu Smith-Schuster and rookie fourth-rounder Javon Baker, especially if he can establish chemistry with Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye. As a pro, Polk may ultimately be more of a possession receiver than a deep target, but he boasts the upside to become one of the most consistent options in the Patriots' air attack.

Audric Estime DEN RB
Broncos' Audric Estime: Should be ready for camp
1d agoCoach Sean Payton expects Estime (knee) to be "full go" for the start of training camp, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.
The rookie fifth-round pick missed most of Denver's offseason program after undergoing a minor knee scope this spring. Kosmider suggests Estime could challenge Javonte Williams for lead-runner duties in an offense that also has Jaleel McLaughlin and Samaje Perine as strong candidates for backfield roles. It'll likely shape up as some form of committee again, with the 227-pound Estime a candidate to provide a power element if Williams fails to regain the explosiveness he showed early in his career before a multi-ligament knee tear in Oct. 2022.

Van Jefferson PIT WR
Steelers' Van Jefferson: Early favorite for WR2 job
1d agoJefferson has "pole position" to be Pittsburgh's No. 2 wide receiver, according to Mark Kaboly of The Athletic.
The Steelers signed four wide receivers with NFL starting experience between January and May, also bringing in Quez Watkins, Scotty Miller and Marquez Callaway. They've each had exactly one season with 500-plus receiving yards, either in 2020 or 2021. Jefferson's so-called pole position prior to training camp may not mean much, as he'll face competition not only from the aforementioned veterans, but also 2024 third-round pick Roman Wilson and 2023 third-rounder Calvin Austin. It looks like a wide-open competition for snaps/roles behind runaway No. 1 receiver George Pickens.

Kyle Philips TEN WR
Titans' Kyle Philips: Not assured roster spot
2d agoPhilips is expected to enter training camp fighting for a roster spot, John Glennon of the Nashville Post reports.
Philips, a 2022 fifth-round pick, secured 15 of 22 targets for 181 yards across nine appearances last season, and he never managed to play more than 50 percent of offensive snaps. With Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd joining DeAndre Hopkins atop the depth chart, and 2022 first-round pick Treylon Burks still vying for opportunities, Phillips finds himself competing for limited reserve roles, and rookie sixth-round pick Jha'Quan Jackson also projects as a slot option and return man.

Jamal Adams TEN SS
Titans' Jamal Adams: Lands in Tennessee
2d agoAdams (knee) agreed to terms Thursday on a one-year contract with the Titans, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.
Adams, now presumably healthy after dealing with late-season knee injuries down the stretch in 2023, links up with Tennessee shortly ahead of the start of training camp. He tallied 48 tackles (34 solo) and two pass breakups across nine appearances with Seattle last season, and across four years with the team he suited up for just 34 contests. Injury woes could follow Adams to his new team, but when healthy his proclivity for high tackle numbers should make him a relevant fantasy asset in IDP formats, even if he's not the same player he was when he earned All-Pro honors in the third year of his career.

Matt Judon NE OLB
Patriots' Matthew Judon: Not close to new deal
3d agoJudon and the Patriots are far apart in contract negotiations, Henry McKenna of FoxSports.com reports.
McKenna notes that Judon has asked for a new contract and the Patriots have presented an offer, but the sides "are not currently close to agreeing to a new deal." Judon is approaching the final year of his contract, which will pay him a modest $6.5 million in 2024. New England may be hesitant to offer the linebacker a hefty deal given that he played in just four games last season due to a torn biceps, though he has more than proven his ability as a pass rusher with 28 combined sacks between 2021 and 2022. Per Conor Ryan of The Boston Globe, Judon doesn't plan to hold out of camp if the sides don't agree to a new deal.

Kyle Stowers BAL LF
Orioles' Kyle Stowers: Back in Baltimore
1m agoThe Orioles recalled Stowers from Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday.
With Heston Kjerstad (concussion) headed for the injured list, the Orioles will call upon Stowers to provide additional depth to their outfield unit. The 26-year-old has fared well in the majors this season, going 10-for-35 with nine RBI in 17 games, and he boasts an .861 OPS through 242 plate appearances with the Tides. However, Austin Hays and Colton Cowser will likely receive the bulk of reps in left field while Kjerstad is sidelined.
-
Heston Kjerstad BAL LF
Orioles' Heston Kjerstad: Placed on concussion IL
7m agoThe Orioles placed Kjerstad on the 7-day concussion injured list Saturday.
Kjerstad was scratched from Saturday's lineup after participating in pregame drills, and he'll now land on the 7-day IL as a result of getting hit in the head by a pitch Friday. Kyle Stowers was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to replenish Baltimore's outfield depth.
-
Ha-seong Kim SD SS
Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Not starting Saturday
27m agoKim is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's matchup against Atlanta, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Kim will get a rest amidst a four-game mini-slump during which he's gone 2-for-12 with no walks. Tyler Wade is taking over at shortstop in Kim's stead.
-
Xander Bogaerts SD 2B
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Beginning on bench Saturday
31m agoBogaerts isn't in Saturday's starting lineup versus Atlanta, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Bogaerts returned from a lengthy absence Friday, going 2-for-4 while starting at second base. There's no word that he aggravated the shoulder injury that landed him on the IL on May 20, so his absence from the lineup Saturday is presumably part of the plan to ease him back into action. Jake Cronenworth is playing second base in the middle game of the series while Luis Arraez is moving from DH to first base.
-
Mike Siani STL CF
Cardinals' Michael Siani: Makes early exit Saturday
42m agoSiani departed the first game of Saturday's twin bill against the Cubs due to a left elbow contusion, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Siani was hit by a pitch on the left elbow with the bases loaded in the first inning to get credited with an RBI. He stayed in the game for a few more frames before being removed in the fourth. Siani got a second plate appearance prior to his departure and grounded out to first base. It's worth noting that the Cardinals were up 10-1 at the time of his departure, so it's possible that Siani's exit was precautionary. The teams are playing a doubleheader Saturday, and it remains to be seen if Siani will be in the lineup for the nightcap.
-
Jose Miranda MIN 3B
Twins' Jose Miranda: Remaining sidelined Saturday
1h agoMiranda (back) isn't in the Twins' lineup for Saturday's game versus San Francisco.
Miranda was scratched from Minnesota's lineup ahead of Friday's contest due to back stiffness, and he'll need at least another day to recover before returning to the starting nine. In his absence, Matt Wallner will serve as the Twins' DH and bat fifth.
-
Kevin Durant PHO PF
Suns' Kevin Durant: Likely to miss exhibition Monday
2h agoDurant (calf) is expected to miss Team USA's exhibition game versus Australia on Monday, CBSSports.com reports.
Durant was absent from training camp due to his calf injury, and he also missed the USA's exhibition game against Canada on Wednesday. The USA is set to play in two more exhibition games on July 15 against Australia, and July 17 against Serbia, which the All-Star is likely to sit out of. The 35-year-old is coming off his healthiest season in the past four years, during which he averaged 27.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.2 blocks in 75 regular-season games. Team USA will hope to have Durant back playing alongside Stephen Curry, LeBron James and Joel Embiid for the start of the Paris Olympics on July 28 against Serbia.

Reed Sheppard HOU SG
Rockets' Reed Sheppard: Team-high 23 points in win Friday
3h agoSheppard produced 23 points (9-17 FG, 4-6 3Pt, 1-2 FT), five assists, four rebounds, three blocks and one steal across 30 minutes in Friday's 99-80 win over the Lakers in the NBA 2K25 Summer League.
Sheppard opened his Summer League play with an extremely productive outing, stuffing the stat sheet and hitting a team-high four three-pointers. The No. 3 overall pick was a lights-out shooter in one season with Kentucky, during which he averaged 12.5 points, 4.5 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 2.5 steals while shooting 52.1 percent from deep. The 20-year-old also impressed on defense Friday, but his 6-foot-2 frame could limit what he can do on that side of the ball against NBA competition.
-
Alex Sarr WAS C
Wizards' Alex Sarr: Game-high four blocks in win Friday
4h agoSarr tallied 12 points (4-12 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), seven rebounds, four assists, four blocks and one steal across 32 minutes in Friday's 94-88 win over the Hawks in the NBA 2K25 Summer League.
Sarr has been touted as an athletic big with the potential to block shots at an elite level, and he displayed this ability in the Summer League opener with a game-high four swats. The 19-year-old struggled from the field in the highly-anticipated matchup against No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher. However, Sarr stuffed the stat sheet, hitting an efficient two-of-five attempts from deep as well. The No. 2 overall pick played for Perth in the NBL during the 2023-24 season, and he averaged 9.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks across 17.3 minutes while shooting 29.0 percent from deep.
-
Zaccharie Risacher ATL SF
Hawks' Zaccharie Risacher: Team-high 18 points in loss Friday
4h agoRisacher accumulated 18 points (7-16 FG, 3-9 3Pt, 1-2 FT), five rebounds, two assists and one block across 29 minutes in Friday's 94-88 loss to the Wizards in the NBA 2K25 Summer League.
Risacher produced a decent outing while displaying his ability to score in the Hawks' Summer League opener against No. 2 overall pick Alex Sarr. Risacher shot a game-high 16 attempts from the floor, and he led the Hawks' starting lineup in efficiency from the field at 43.8 percent. The 19-year-old has the potential to become an elite three-and-D player, and he already has professional experience from his time with the French club JL Bourg. During the EuroCup in 2023-24, Risacher averaged 11.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 0.8 steals while shooting 45.0 percent from beyond the arc in 23 games.

Bobi Klintman DET PF
Pistons' Bobi Klintman: Officially signs with Motor City
4h agoKlintman signed a four-year, $7.99 million contract with the Pistons on Saturday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
Klintman's rookie contract will be fully guaranteed over the first two seasons. The No. 37 overall pick played one season at Wake Forest before going over to Cairns in the NBL. During his time playing professionally for Cairns, the 21-year-old averaged 9.7 points and 4.8 rebounds across 21.7 minutes in 23 games.
-
Taj Gibson DET C
Hornets' Taj Gibson: Signs pact with Buzz City
5h agoGibson signed a one-year, $3.3 million contract with the Hornets on Saturday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
Gibson briefly played for both the Knicks and Pistons last season, during which he averaged 1.7 points and 1.9 rebounds across 10.3 minutes in only 20 regular-season appearances. The 39-year-old will serve as a valuable veteran presence on the Hornets; however, he will likely pick up minimal playing time behind Mark Williams and Nick Richards.
-
Braden Schneider NYR D
Rangers' Braden Schneider: Agrees to extension
3h agoSchneider signed a two-year, $4.4 million contract with the Rangers on Saturday, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports.
It'll be a bridge deal, carrying an AAV of $2.2 million, for the 22-year-old Schneider after he posted five goals, 19 points and a minus-1 rating while playing in all 82 games last season. Schneider has emerged as a steady third-pairing blueliner in New York, and he could be in line for a larger role in the 2024-25 campaign.
-
Oskar Steen BOS C
Oskar Steen: Signs in Sweden
4h agoSteen inked a five-year contract with Farjestad BK of the SHL on Saturday, Derek O'Brien of The Hockey News reports.
Steen spent parts of four seasons with the Bruins, accumulating four goals and eight points in 60 career regular-season games. The 26-year-old forward played four campaigns with Farjestad before embarking across the pond to play in North America in 2019. He is likely to finish out his career in his native Sweden.
-
Jet Greaves CLB G
Blue Jackets' Jet Greaves: Re-signs with Columbus
23h agoGreaves signed a two-year, $1.625 million contract with the Blue Jackets on Friday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Year 1 is a two-way pact, while Year 2 is a one-way agreement. Greaves will earn $800,000 during the 2024-25 campaign at the NHL level and $825,000 the following season. The 23-year-old netminder posted a record of 3-6-0 with a 3.49 GAA and a .908 save percentage in nine appearances with Columbus in 2023-24. He will battle Elvis Merzlikins and Daniil Tarasov at training camp for a roster spot, but he could start the upcoming season in the minors.
-
Chad Ruhwedel NYR D
Rangers' Chad Ruhwedel: Inks one-year pact
1d agoRuhwedel inked a one-year, two-way contract with the Rangers on Friday.
The fact that Ruhwedel signed a two-way deal doesn't bode well for him seeing a lot of minutes with New York this season. The 34-year-old blueliner has made a career out of being a seventh defenseman, one that includes a Stanley Cup championship, so he won't necessarily be playing a bunch with AHL Hartford. Regardless, fantasy players probably shouldn't be expecting much out of Ruhwedel even when he does get into the lineup.
-
Ty Emberson SJ D
Sharks' Ty Emberson: Ready for camp
1d agoEmberson (lower body) will be fully fit when training camp kicks off ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports Friday.
Emberson recently signed a one-year deal with the Sharks, resolving his restricted free-agent status ahead of the season. Last year, the 24-year-old defenseman saw action in 30 NHL contests in which he garnered one goal, nine assists and 31 shots while averaging 18:33 of ice time. Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Emberson should take the next step in his development and be a full-time NHL option for San Jose.
-
Michael Callahan BOS D
Bruins' Michael Callahan: Signs one-year deal
1d agoCallahan penned a one-year, two-way contract with Boston on Friday.
Callahan has yet to make his NHL debut after being selected by the Coyotes in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Draft. Last year, the 24-year-old defenseman generated four goals and 13 helpers in 70 regular-season contests. While Callahan could make his debut this year, he figures to spend the bulk of the campaign in the minors with AHL Providence.
