Cardinals' Kyle Gibson: Allows two runs in no-decision
Gibson did not factor into the decision in Thursday's loss to the Rays, allowing two runs on eight hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out six.
Both runs charged to Gibson came across in the opening frame after he surrendered back-to-back hits to open the contest, followed by a two-run single from Dylan Carlson with two outs. The right-hander was able to keep the Rays off the board over the next five innings however, generating 11 whiffs while posting at least six strikeouts for the third time in his last four starts. Gibson is still looking for his first win since July 7, though he has managed to go six or more innings in three of his five outings over that span.

Cardinals' Kyle Gibson: Strikes out seven in no-decision
Gibson did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 5-4 win against the Cubs, allowing four runs on five hits and one walk with seven strikeouts over seven innings.
Gibson allowed four runs over his first two innings but rebounded with five scoreless frames. The veteran was efficient, throwing 65 of 96 pitches for strikes and retiring the final seven batters he faced, but he has now yielded three earned runs or more in seven of his past 10 starts and has not won a game since July 7. On the year, he owns a 4.04 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 109:47 K:BB across 120.1 innings and lines up for a home matchup with the Rays next week.

Cardinals' Kyle Gibson: Takes loss Saturday
Gibson (7-4) allowed two runs on six hits and three walks while failing to record a strikeout over five innings, taking the loss Saturday versus the Nationals.
Gibson has posted a 17:9 K:BB over 20.2 innings across his last four starts, allowing 10 runs in that span. That's just a little worse than his 3.97 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 102:46 K:BB for the year, marks he's achieved in 113.1 innings across 20 starts. The veteran right-hander is projected to make his next start on the road versus the Cubs.

Cardinals' Kyle Gibson: Fans six in quality start
Gibson came away with a no-decision in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against Atlanta, allowing one run on three hits and two walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out six.
The veteran right-hander needed exactly 100 pitches (66 strikes) to record his ninth quality start of the season, but Gibson saw his eighth win slip away after he left the mound in the bottom of the seventh inning in a game the Cardinals eventually lost in 10. Gibson hadn't lasted more than five frames in an outing in over a month, so the rest afforded by the All-Star break appears to have done him some good. He'll take a 3.99 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 102:43 K:BB through 108.1 innings into his next start, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Nationals.

Cardinals' Kyle Gibson: Peppered in no-decision
Gibson came away with a no-decision in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cubs, giving up four runs on 10 hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out three.
All four runs scored in the second inning as Chicago batted around, with the biggest blow being a two-run shot by Miguel Amaya. Gibson wound up exiting after 97 pitches (56 strikes) as he failed to last more than five innings for the fourth straight start, a stretch in which he's stumbled to a 7.50 ERA, 2.11 WHIP and 23:10 K:BB in 18 innings. The veteran righty will try to use the All-Star break to regroup, but there are warning signs his numbers could continue to regress after a promising start to 2024 -- his 91.0 mph average velocity on his fastball would be his lowest since 2016, while his 9.5 percent walk rate would be his highest over a full season since 2018.

Gibson (7-3) earned the win Sunday over the Nationals, allowing three runs on nine hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out eight.
Gibson got through the first five innings surrendering just two runs but allowed the first three hitters to reach in the sixth before getting pulled. The veteran has won three of his last four starts and has had quality starts in four of his last seven outings. The 36-year-old has helped stabilize the Cardinals rotation -- he has a 3.96 ERA and 1.29 WHIP through 97.2 innings.

Cardinals' Kyle Gibson: Strikes out eight in win
Gibson (6-3) earned the win against the Pirates on Tuesday, allowing four runs on five hits and one walk with eight strikeouts over five innings.
Gibson was cruising early, striking out the side in each of the second and fourth innings, but he allowed four runs on two homers in the fifth. He bounced back with his control after walking five batters in his most recent start Wednesday, but he was pulled after a season-low 79 pitches and has surrendered four earned runs in back-to-back outings. On the season, the veteran owns a 3.88 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 85:37 K:BB over 92.2 innings and lines up for a road matchup against the Nationals this weekend.
