  • Blue Jays' Jose Berrios: Strikes out eight in win

Berrios (10-9) earned the win against the Athletics on Friday, allowing one run on six hits and one walk with eight strikeouts over seven innings.

Berrios allowed a solo home run in the third inning but was otherwise fantastic, limiting hard contact and generating 12 swinging strikes on 103 pitches. He has been inconsistent since the All-Star break, posting two seven-inning victories but also yielding eight earned runs across 9.2 frames in his other two outings. On the season, the 30-year-old owns a 3.97 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 111:43 K:BB across 142.2 innings and lines up for a road matchup with the Angels next week.

  • Blue Jays' Jose Berrios: Allows three homers in loss

Berrios (9-9) took the loss against the Yankees on Saturday, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits and three walks with six strikeouts over five innings.

The velocity on each of Berrios' offerings was at least one mph above his season averages, but he was burned by three two-run homers. The 30-year-old trails only Kutter Crawford with 25 long balls allowed this season, and he has yielded four earned runs or more in six of his past 10 starts. On the year, Berrios owns a 4.11 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 103:42 K:BB across 135.2 innings and lines up for a home matchup with the Athletics next week.

  • Blue Jays' Jose Berrios: Earns win with seven strong innings

Berrios (9-8) earned the win Sunday, allowing one run on six hits over seven innings against the Blue Jays. He struck out five.

Berrios managed to keep the Rangers off the board aside from an RBI single by Nathaniel Lowe in the sixth. It was just the second time since the end of May that Berrios completed seven frames, and it was the first time during that span that the veteran righty allowed as few as one run. He had particularly struggled over his last eight starts prior to Sunday, carrying a 6.44 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with a 3.7 BB/9 over 43.1 innings during that stretch. Additionally, Berrios managed to not walk a batter after delivering 10 free passes in 8.2 innings over his past two starts. Berrios will look to build upon this effort, though it won't get any easier in his next start as he's currently scheduled to take on the Yankees in the Bronx.

  • Blue Jays' Jose Berrios: Can't find plate against Rays

Berrios (8-8) took the loss Tuesday, giving up three runs on three hits and six walks over 4.2 innings as the Blue Jays fell 4-2 to the Rays. He struck out five.

The six free passes were a season worst for Berrios, topping the four he'd issued in his last start July 13. The right-hander also served up a solo shot to Brandon Lowe, and in his last nine outings dating back to the beginning of June, he's been taken deep 12 times while stumbling to a 6.02 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 34:21 K:BB through 49.1 innings. Berrios will try to get back on track in his next start, which is scheduled to come at home this weekend against the Rangers.
