  • Orioles' Zach Eflin: Blanks former team

Eflin (8-7) earned the win Friday over the Rays, allowing four hits and one walk over seven shutout innings. He struck out seven.

It was a dominant performance from Eflin against his former club. The right-hander has won all three of his outings with Baltimore with three quality starts, allowing just five runs in 19.1 innings in that span. Eflin's ERA is down to 3.83 with a 1.15 WHIP and 104:15 K:BB in 22 starts (129.1 innings) between the Orioles and Rays. He's lined up for a home matchup with the Red Sox next week in his next time out.

  • Orioles' Jean Segura: Inks minors deal with O's

Segura signed a minor-league contract with the Orioles on Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Segura hasn't played since he was cut by the Guardians last August, but he'll now get another chance with the Orioles while filling in as organizational depth at Triple-A Norfolk. The 34-year-old infielder slashed just .219/.277/.279 across 326 plate appearances last season, and he's unlikely to make an impact in the majors at this stage in his career.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Out of Baltimore lineup

Mountcastle is not in the lineup for Friday's contest versus the Rays, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

It's a regular day off for Mountcastle, who currently possesses a modest five-game hitting streak. Ryan O'Hearn will handle first base duties for the Orioles.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Taking seat Friday

Rutschman is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Rays, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

It's a routine day off for Rutschman, who was recently demoted from second to fifth in the Orioles' batting order. He's slashed just .162/.276/.263 since the beginning of July. James McCann will do the catching for Zach Eflin.

  • Orioles' Coby Mayo: Losing playing time to Urias

Mayo is absent from the lineup for Friday's contest in Tampa Bay, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

It marks the third time in four games that Mayo has been out of the Orioles' starting lineup. The rookie is 0-for-13 with eight strikeouts to begin his major-league career, and it appears he could now be behind Ramon Urias in the pecking order at third base.

  • Orioles' Jackson Holliday: Up to six spot Friday

Holliday will start at second base and bat sixth in Friday's game at Tampa Bay, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

It's the highest he's batted in his brief major-league career. Holliday has earned a move up in the Orioles' batting order by going 9-for-28 with one double, four home runs and 11 RBI in eight games since being recalled in late July.

  • Orioles' Colton Cowser: Plates four runs in loss

Cowser went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI in Thursday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Cowser put Baltimore on the board in the third inning with a two-run homer to left field. He added a two-run single in the ninth to pull the Orioles within a run as part of a rally that fell just short. Cowser's four RBI tied a season-high mark, and he's now at 53 runs batted in along with 17 home runs, seven steals and a .250/.332/.458 slash line through 372 plate appearances on the campaign.

  • Orioles' Dean Kremer: Struggles in loss Thursday

Kremer (4-9) took the loss against Toronto on Thursday, allowing five runs on four hits and five walks while striking out six batters over 4.1 innings.

Kremer fell behind 3-0 after one frame and never moved out of position to take the loss after that, as the bulk of Baltimore's runs came in a ninth-inning rally that fell just short. Poor control was partly to blame for Kremer's struggles, as he walked a season-high five batters, two of whom came around to score. Kremer has lost each of his past four decisions and has posted a 5.66 ERA along with a 17:11 K:BB across 20.2 frames during that span.

  • Orioles' Eloy Jimenez: Sitting down Thursday

Jimenez isn't in the Orioles' lineup for Thursday's game versus the Blue Jays.

Jimenez will get a day to rest Thursday after going 8-for-15 with four RBI over his last four games. His absence will put Anthony Santander into the DH role while Colton Cowser, Cedric Mullins and Ryan O'Hearn start across the outfield.

  • Orioles' Coby Mayo: Not starting Thursday

Mayo isn't in the Orioles' lineup for Thursday's game against Toronto.

Mayo has struck out in eight of his first 13 major-league at-bats, and he is still searching for his first career hit after five games in the big leagues. He'll get a day to regroup Thursday while Ramon Urias starts at the hot corner and bats ninth.

  • Orioles' Burch Smith: First win with new team

Smith (3-0) earned the win Wednesday over the Blue Jays, striking out two over a perfect inning.

Smith has maintained a 2.31 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 15:2 K:BB over 11.2 innings since he first joined the Orioles' big-league roster in mid-July. The right-hander has provided some stability to address one of Baltimore's weak spots. Smith has also picked up two holds since the start of August, which suggests he's moving up the leverage ladder. For the season, he has a 3.70 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 38:11 K:BB over 41.1 innings between Baltimore and Miami, but it's clear he's more comfortable with his current team than he was with his previous one.

  • Orioles' Jackson Holliday: Sets AL record in Wednesday's win

Holliday went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Blue Jays.

The precocious 20-year-old took Ryan Burr deep in the seventh inning, making Holliday the youngest player in American League history to go yard in three straight games. He's also the 12th player in big-league history to accomplish that feat before his 21st birthday, a list that includes the likes of Fernando Tatis and Juan Soto as well as Hall of Famers Willie Mays and Mel Ott. Per Jake Rill of MLB.com, only two players have had longer streaks before they turned 21 -- Miguel Cabrera had homers in four straight games in 2004, and Ronald Acuna went yard in five straight in 2018. Holliday is making it clear he has no intention of going back to the minors, and in seven games since his promotion he's batting .375 (9-for-24) with a double, four homers, seven runs and 10 RBI.

  • Orioles' Anthony Santander: Slugs two homers against Toronto

Santander went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Blue Jays.

The veteran outfielder belted a two-run homer off Bowden Francis in the first inning before adding a solo shot off Ryan Yarbrough in the eighth. Santander has been on an impressive power surge since just before the All-Star break, and over his last 20 games he's slashing .305/.363/.756 with 11 of his 32 home runs on the year. He sits one long ball shy of tying his career high of 33, which he set in 2022.

  • Orioles' Trevor Rogers: Solid in second start for O's

Rogers came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Blue Jays, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out two.

The southpaw left the mound after 94 pitches (59 strikes) in line for a loss, but the Baltimore offense got rolling in the late innings. Rogers showed some jitters in his Orioles' debut Aug. 1 following a trade-deadline deal from the Marlins, but he was back in his usual form Wednesday -- he's allowed two earned runs or less in six of seven outings since the beginning of July, although he has zero quality starts to show for it as he hasn't lasted longer than 5.2 innings in any of those appearances. Rogers will look for his first win with his new club early next week in a home start against a familiar foe from the NL East in the Nationals.

  • Orioles' Eloy Jimenez: Pushing for everyday role

Jimenez will start at designated hitter and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.

Jimenez was widely expected to fill the short side platoon of a platoon at DH when the Orioles acquired him from the White Sox on July 30, but the 27-year-old appears to have pushed his way into a near-everyday role, at least while he's swinging a hot bat. He'll be picking up his fourth consecutive start -- including his third in a row against a right-hander (Bowden Francis) -- after going 6-for-12 with a double and two RBI to begin his tenure with the Orioles. Meanwhile, the lefty-hitting Cedric Mullins will head to the bench for the second game in a row.
