  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Launches 17th homer

Vientos went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Thursday's win over the Rockies.

The young third baseman took advantage of the thin air at Coors Field by taking Peter Lambert deep to left-center field in the fifth inning for his 17th long ball of the season. Vientos hasn't had a multi-hit performance since July 26, but he's been able to stay somewhat productive during that time, collecting three doubles, three homers and six RBI in 10 games despite a .184 batting average (7-for-38) and 2:12 BB:K.

  • Mets' Grant Hartwig: Returns to action for Double-A club

Triple-A Syracuse activated Hartwig (knee) from its 7-day injured list Tuesday and assigned him to Double-A Binghamton.

Hartwig had been on the shelf at Triple-A since mid-June with a torn meniscus in his left knee, but after making a full recovery from surgery, he was cleared to begin a rehab assignment at Single-A St. Lucie on July 30. After making two appearances, Hartwig was bumped up to Double-A, and he'll likely remain with Binghamton until a spot opens in the Triple-A bullpen. In his first appearance with Binghamton on Tuesday, Hartwig gave up one earned run on two hits and one walk while recording one out.

  • Mets' Pete Alonso: Goes yard twice in win

Alonso went 3-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored Thursday against the Rockies.

Alonso touched up Colorado starter Austin Gomber for both homers, capping a four-run first inning with a two-run blast, then launching a second dinger off the lefty in the third. It was Alonso's second multi-homer game of the season and his fourth game with at least three RBI. The slugging first baseman is now slashing .246/.331/.476 with 51 extra-base hits including 25 homers, 63 RBI, 67 runs and 49 walks across 493 plate appearances.

  • Mets' David Peterson: Cruises to sixth win

Peterson (6-1) earned the win Thursday, allowing one run on four hits and three walks over five innings against the Rockies. He struck out five.

Peterson was provided a four-run lead prior to taking the hill and saw the lead grow as high as seven as he cruised to his sixth win. A Brenton Doyle sacrifice fly was the only run tallied against the Denver-born Peterson, who has now allowed two runs or fewer in eight of his last nine starts. While his WHIP is still a bit unsightly at 1.42, he's successfully limited the damage to the tune of a 3.34 ERA over 12 starts spanning 64.2 innings. He's next slated to toe the rubber when Oakland makes the cross-country trip to take on the Mets in Queens.

  • Mets' Jesus Baez: Done for season

Baez (knee) said Thursday that he will miss the rest of the 2024 season, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Baez was placed on the 7-day injured list after undergoing knee surgery in early July to address a torn meniscus. He will now be forced to miss the remainder of the season, finishing his 2024 campaign with a .267 average with a home run, three doubles, four RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base over 30 at-bats in eight games with High-A St. Lucie.

  • Mets' Starling Marte: Begins rehab assignment

Marte (knee) went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and two strikeouts Wednesday in the first game of his rehab assignment with Single-A St. Lucie.

He hit an opposite-field single in his first at-bat and then stole second base. Marte started at designated hitter in this one and his rehab assignment is expected to move to Double-A Binghamton by the end of the week. Anthony DiComo of MLB.com speculates Marte could be ready to be activated Tuesday against the Athletics at the beginning of next week's homestand.

  • Mets' Reed Garrett: Returning over weekend

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that Garrett (elbow) will rejoin the Mets in Seattle on Friday and should be activated from the 15-day injured list at some point during the weekend, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Though the Mets may not activate Garrett on Friday, he's on the cusp of returning to the New York bullpen. The 31-year-old righty has been on the shelf since July 10 due to elbow inflammation after giving up three earned runs in two-thirds of an inning during his last appearance.

  • Mets' Jesse Winker: Sitting versus lefty

Winker is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Colorado, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Left-hander Austin Gomber is on the hill for the Rockies, so the lefty-hitting Winker will begin the series finale on the bench. Jeff McNeil will handle right field for the Mets while Jose Iglesias gets a start at second base.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Out of lineup Thursday

Alvarez is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Colorado, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Alvarez was behind the plate for Wednesday's 5-3 win, but Luis Torrens started at catcher in the series opener and is back in the lineup for the finale. Alvarez did come off the bench in the middle of Tuesday's game and delivered a hit, so it's possible the Mets look to sub him in for Torrens at some point Thursday.

  • Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Sitting against left-hander

Nimmo is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Colorado, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

The left-handed-hitting Nimmo will get the series finale off as the Rockies send southpaw Austin Gomber to the bump. Tyrone Taylor will occupy left field for the Mets.

  • Mets' Francisco Lindor: Plates two, swipes 24th bag

Lindor went 2-for-5 with two RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's win over the Rockies.

Lindor singled in his first trip to the plate and stole second before coming around to score the Mets' first run of the game on a knock from Pete Alonso. The shortstop then came through in the clutch in his final at-bat, recording a two-RBI single in the ninth to break the tie and give New York a 4-2 lead. Lindor has now hit safely in five of his first six games to open the month of August, posting three RBI, four runs and two stolen bases over that brief stretch. He's also posted multiple hits in three of his last nine contests, though he's still looking for his first extra-base hit this month.

  • Mets' Edwin Diaz: Allows one run in save

Diaz picked up the save in a win over the Rockies on Wednesday, allowing one run on one hit over one inning while striking out two.

Diaz entered the contest in the bottom of the ninth with a three-run lead and surrendered a leadoff triple to Michael Toglia on the first pitch he threw before then seeing the runner come home on a Jake Cave groundout two batters later. However, the veteran reliever was able to wrap things up with a swinging strikeout of Charlie Blackmon to end the game and secure his 14th save of the campaign. Diaz has now converted each of his last six save opportunities, posting multiple strikeouts in three of his last four appearances. However, he's also allowed a run in two of his last five outings.

  • Mets' Paul Blackburn: Second straight quality start

Blackburn did not factor into the decision in a win over the Rockies on Wednesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks over six innings while striking out six.

Blackburn gave up one run in the opening frame after surrendering a leadoff single to start things off, but he settled in nicely from that point on, allowing just one unearned run over the next five innings. It marked the right-hander's second quality start in a row since being traded to the Mets last month, and he's also recorded six strikeouts in each of those outings. Furthermore, Blackburn has allowed just one earned run in three of his last five starts (dating back to May 5), going 3-1 over that interrupted stretch.

Bader isn't in the Mets' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies.

Bader has been on a hot streak since the start of August, going 6-for-16 with four RBI and two runs scored over four games. He'll get a breather Wednesday against Ryan Feltner and the Rockies, and Tyrone Taylor will start in center field instead.
