  • Rangers' Cody Bradford: Rangers-Yankees postponed

Bradford won't start as scheduled Friday against the Yankees after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in New York.

The left-hander was reinserted into Texas' rotation last weekend against the Red Sox and was set to start again in Friday's series opener, but that outing will be pushed back. The game will be made up via a doubleheader Saturday, and Bradford should start one of those contests.

  • Rangers' Wyatt Langford: Swipes 10th bag

Langford went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, two runs scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the Astros.

Langford broke out of an 0-for-13 slump Wednesday, reaching base three times and recording his 10th theft of the season. The rookie started in center field and appears to be back to full strength after missing two games this past weekend with back tightness. The outfielder has had a respectable rookie season thus far, batting .242 with six home runs, 44 RBI, 39 runs scored and 10 stolen bases in 89 games played.

  • Rangers' Jose Urena: Zero strikeouts in defeat

Urena (3-7) took the loss Wednesday against the Astros, allowing two earned runs on six hits and three walks in four innings. He did not record a strikeout.

Urena was fortunate to escape with only two earned runs allowed as he put multiple baserunners on in each of the first three frames. He stranded seven runners with the help of two double plays. The 32-year-old failed to record a strikeout Wednesday and has now registered a paltry four punchouts over his last three appearances (12.1 innings). During that span, the right-hander owns an ugly 7.30 ERA, 2.64 WHIP and 4:3 K:BB. With Max Scherzer (fatigue) out until at least Aug. 15, Urena could make another start for the short-handed Rangers. If he does stick around in the rotation, Urena will likely face off against the Red Sox early next week.

  • Rangers' Jacob deGrom: Throwing live BP on Thursday

DeGrom (elbow) with throw a 20-pitch live batting practice session Thursday at Globe Life Field, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

It will be deGrom's first time facing hitters since he underwent Tommy John surgery in June of 2023. Assuming it goes well, the right-hander will then progress to a two-inning live batting practice session early next week, which could be the final box he needs to check before being cleared to begin a rehab assignment. DeGrom will need multiple rehab starts before rejoining the Rangers' rotation.

  • Rangers' Leody Taveras: Absent from lineup again

Taveras is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Astros.

Taveras is on the bench for the second straight game, as the Rangers will again roll with Wyatt Langford in center field and Josh Smith in left field. Taveras is off to a nice start in August with a couple home runs, but he's collected just a .647 OPS for the season.

  • Rangers' Jose Urena: Slated for another start

Urena is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Astros at Globe Life Field.

He'll be making his second straight turn through the rotation, despite being tagged for seven earned runs in four innings in a loss to the Red Sox his last time out Friday. Texas will have a spot in the rotation available for as long as both Jon Gray (groin) and Max Scherzer (shoulder) are on the shelf, but another poor showing Wednesday could nonetheless put Urena at risk of being moved to the bullpen, if not cast off the roster. Long relievers Cody Bradford and Dane Dunning loom as alternatives for the No. 5 spot if Urena can't get the job done.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Outdueled in 2024 debut

Mahle (0-1) took the loss Tuesday as the Rangers were downed 4-2 by the Astros, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out two.

Making his season debut after completing his recovery from Tommy John surgery, Mahle tossed an efficient 76 pitches (49 strikes) but had the misfortune of facing Framber Valdez, who took a no-hitter into the ninth inning. Mahle should fill a rotation spot for Texas the rest of the way in 2024, and he should get stretched out further in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week in Boston.

  • Rangers' Corey Seager: Spoils no-hit bid

Seager went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Astros.

Seager spoiled Framber Valdez's no-hit bid with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning with his two-run homer. It was Seager's third consecutive game with a home run and his fifth homer over the last five contests. The shortstop has 24 home runs and 57 RBI through 101 games this season.

  • Rangers' Marcus Semien: Bats third against lefty

Semien batted third and went 0-for-2 with two walks in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to Houston.

Semien was shifted from leadoff to third in the order July 29 and has stayed there since, though Tuesday marked the first time the Rangers faced a left-hander in that span. It looks like the lineup tweak will stick against pitchers of both handedness. The second baseman is 6-for-29 with four walks, two doubles, one home run, three RBI and two runs scored over eight games as the No. 3 batter.

  • Rangers' Leody Taveras: Out of Tuesday's lineup

Taveras is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Astros.

The 25-year-old homered in back-to-back games versus the Red Sox over the weekend but went 0-for-4 in the past two games and has a .602 OPS since July 25. Wyatt Langford will shift to center field while Josh Smith starts in left with Taveras on the bench.

  • Rangers' Nathaniel Lowe: Getting breather against LHP

Lowe isn't in the Rangers' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Astros.

The lefty-hitting Lowe will retreat to the bench Tuesday as southpaw Framber Valdez starts on the mound for Houston. Ezequiel Duran will take over at first base and bat ninth.

  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Officially activated

The Rangers reinstated Mahle (elbow) from the 60-day injured list to start Tuesday's game against the Astros.

Mahle will make his 2024 debut Tuesday and his first MLB appearance since undergoing Tommy John surgery in May of 2023. The right-hander threw 74 pitches in his most latest minor-league rehab start and shouldn't face and significant workload restrictions Tuesday. In six rehab starts, Mahle allowed five runs in 18 innings with 18 strikeouts.

  • Rangers' Andrew Knizner: Removed from 40-man roster

The Rangers designated Knizner for assignment Tuesday.

After being dropped from the 26-man roster July 29, Knizner was removed from the 40-man roster Tuesday. The move opens a slot on the 40-man roster for Tyler Mahle (elbow), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list. Knizner slashed .167/.183/.211 in 93 plate appearances for the Rangers and could garner some interest on waivers from catcher-needy teams.
