  • Bears' Nate Davis: Week-to-week with injury

Head coach Matt Eberflus said after Thursday's practice that Davis (undisclosed) is dealing with a soft-tissue injury and is considered week-to-week, Chris Emma of 670TheScore.com reports.

No further details have been provided, but Davis will miss the Bears' preseason opener against the Bills on Saturday, and the 27-year-old guard could also be held out against the Bengals on Aug. 17. Matt Pryor and Ja'Tyre Carter are candidates to serve as the starting right guard for Saturday's contest in Davis' absence.

  • Bears' Patrick Scales: Dealing with back injury

Head coach Matt Eberflus said Thursday that Scales is sidelined with a back injury, Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Scales has missed several days of practice due to the back issue, but Eberflus noted that the long snapper is "on track" to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Bills. If Scales cannot suit up, Cameron Lyons is slated to fill in as the long snapper for the exhibition matchup.

  • Bears' D'Andre Swift: On track to play this weekend

Coach Matt Eberflus indicated Thursday that healthy starters (a group that would include Swift) are slated to play in Saturday's preseason contest against the Bills, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports.

Swift was among the team's key players who didn't see action in last week's Hall of Fame Game, but the 25-year-old, who spent last season with Philadelphia, is poised to make his game debut in a Chicago uniform Saturday. In his lone campaign with the Eagles, Swift logged a team (and career) high 1,049 yards to go along with five TDs on 229 carries, while adding a career-low 39 catches (on 49 targets) for 214 yards and another score in 16 regular-season contests. Per Kevin Fishbainof The Athletic, Swift has demonstrated his ability as a receiver over the past few weeks in practice, and it's plausible that the 2020 second-rounder could see an uptick in catches this coming season, while leading a backfield that also includes Khalil Herbert, Roschon Johnson and Travis Homer.

  • Bears' Caleb Williams: Set for preseason debut

Williams and the Bears' starters will suit up for Saturday's road preseason matchup against the Bills, Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Williams and key starters for Chicago were kept on the sidelines of the Hall of Fame Game last Thursday, but the rookie No. 1 overall pick is in line to handle the first snaps of his NFL career in Buffalo on Saturday. Coach Matt Eberflus said Williams and the first-team offense will be fielded for a "range" of designated plays, but declined to offer a tangible estimate for how many series the starters will handle. Tyson Bagent, Brett Rypien and Austin Reed will be in line for reps under center after Williams has taken his allotment of snaps.
