July 10, 1990: The Pope has called for Italian music fans to boycott Madonna's latest tour.

The singer's 'Blond Ambition' show, which arrives at Rome's Stadio Flaminio tonight, has angered Pope John Paul II by mixing Catholic themes with explicit sexal imagery.

The Vatican's newspaper, L'osservatore Romano, has described the show as "a complete disgrace".

Madonna was threatened with arrest at a recent Blond Ambition date in Toronto when officials objected to her performance of 'Like A Virgin', during which she simulated masturbation.

She is reportedly considering cancelling tomorrow night's second show in Rome due to the controversy her arrival has caused.

Following the concerts in Italy, the Blond Ambition World Tour will head to Germany, the UK (for three dates at Wembley Stadium), Holland, Spain and France.
