There's every possibility that there was a unanimous "huh?" across America when Taylor Swift thanked her boyfriend "Adam" at the iHeart Radio Awards on Sunday evening (April 3). Isn't she going out with the world's highest-paid DJ, Calvin Harris?

Well, yes she is. But unknown to many, Calvin Harris isn't the Scottish producer's real name. So why did Adam Wiles decide on this particular stage moniker?

In a 2009 interview with Shortlist, the singer/DJ said that he decided to change his name to exploit the racial ambiguity of his stage name.

"My first single was more of a soul track, and I thought Calvin Harris sounded a bit more racially ambiguous," he said at the time.

"I thought people might not know if I was black or not. After that, I was stuck with it."

Well, there you go.

These days, Calvin Harris is a festival-headlining, internationally famous name. The Scot will top the bill at a number of big music events this summer, including Wireless in London and T In The Park in Scotland.

As for his relationship with US superstar Taylor, that keeps going from strength to strength.

The pair recently shared a load of lovey dovey snaps to celebrate their one-year anniversary.
