For Ryan Sutter, a simple social media post quickly became a thorn in his side.
One month after The Bachelorette winner raised eyebrows for elusive posts about missing his wife Trista Sutter, leading to speculation over the status of their marriage, he reflected on why he shared his feelings on social media.
"I'll go months without a post and then suddenly, I'll get in a mood and I'll send something," Ryan explained on the June 17 episode of The Most Dramatic Podcast Ever With Chris Harrison. "There was a particular thing that Trista was doing, and it was the end of the school year. It's been a long year for us—moving and lots of things going on. The culmination of all that happened and I was in that sort of place."
And the firefighter, who shares kids Maxwell, 16, and Blakesley, 15, with Trista, noted that it was meant to be a sweet note to his wife of 20 years.
"Honestly, the intent was that Trista wasn't going to be able to have access to social media until she got finished with this experience she was on," he continued. "So, I was gonna post these things knowing like the second she had access to it, she would look at it and she could see, ‘Here's what happened while you were gone, here's how much we missed you, here's how important you are to us.' And it just blew up in my face and backfired."
And if something difficult did happen in their lives, the 49-year-old wouldn't be taking it to the internet.
"Most of my personal life stays pretty personal," he emphasized. "My take on social media is twofold. I mostly only use Instagram because I like pictures and I love looking back on my life and reflecting on my kids when they were younger. And the writing portion of it reminds me of the emotional state I was in at those particular times."
In May, Ryan expressed in several posts that he was missing the 51-year-old, leaving to several rumors about whether they were on the cusp of a breakup. However, he was quick to set the record straight.
"We are fine," he said on Instagram May 18. "We're great. Trista is at a place in life where she is searching a bit. An opportunity presented itself that may help her on that quest. With her family's support, she has taken it. Part of that process means that she is temporarily inaccessible to us. I miss her. We miss her."
While everything is still rosy for Ryan and Trista, that's not always the case in Bachelor Nation. Keep reading to see where all the couples stand.
