Ovarian Cancer: The Basics

Ovarian cancer is characterized by the uncontrolled growth of cells in the ovaries. It is often diagnosed  late because of its  nonspecific symptoms including bloating and abdominal pain. Risk factors include age, having obesity, and genetic mutations such as BRCA1/2. Diagnosis typically involves pelvic exams, imaging, and biopsies. Treatment typically begins with surgery to remove the tumors, followed by chemotherapy.
