August is bursting with new Horror movies on Shudder. With Shudder Original films, exclusives, and original horror television series, you are sure to find something to add some more fright to your August days and nights.

Shudder has the newest Adams Family film, a Shudder Original fresh from the festival circuit, a brand new show that brings horror’s best to the forefront, a Shudder exclusive film directed by Kimo Stamboel, and the premiere of a new scary movie produced by Steven Soderbergh. One highlight from the repertory titles this month is Luz, the first feature of German director Tilman Singer, whose newest film, Cuckoowill be released on Friday, August 9.

Exciting times.

Of course, we can’t forget that August features three brand-new episodes of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy, including a special all-night NIGHTMAREATHON. Shudder has an excellent month of programming ready for your horror-loving hearts.

 

  • The Last Drive-in With Joe Bob Briggs (2024) on August 2, August 16, and August 30

    Continue to rejoice since Season 6 episodes of The Last Drive-In will continue biweekly, with live premieres on Shudder TV in August. This month's episodes will air live on Friday, August 2, and debut on-demand Sunday, August 4.

    The second episode will air live on Friday, August 16, and will debut on-demand on Sunday, August 18. But wait—there's more Joe Bob, and Darcy in this extra-long month!

    A massive all-night marathon (NIGHTMAREATHO) will air live on Friday, August 30, and debut on-demand Sunday, September 1. Briggs and Darcy the Mail Girl, will be celebrating six years of The Last Drive-In by hosting a six-movie marathon.

  • Divinity (2023) on August 2

    In Divinity, two mysterious brothers abduct a mogul during his quest for immortality. Meanwhile, a seductive woman helps them launch a journey of self-discovery. The film is produced by Steven Soderbergh and stars Bella Thorne, Stephen Dorff, and Scott Bakula.

    This science fiction horror film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2023. It was directed by Eddie Alcazar and featured music by Cypress Hill's DJ Muggs.

  • Dancing Village: The Curse Begins (2024) on August 16

    In this Shudder exclusive film directed by Indonesian filmmaker Kimo Stamboel, a shaman instructs Mila to return a mystical bracelet, the Kawaturih, to the “Dancing Village,” a remote site on the easternmost tip of Java Island. Joined by her cousin, Yuda, and his friends Jito and Arya, Mila arrives on the island only to discover that the village elder has passed away and that the new guardian, Mbah Buyut, isn’t present.

    Various strange and eerie events occur while awaiting Mbah Buyut’s return, including Mila being visited by Badarawuhi, a mysterious, mythical being who rules the village. When she decides to return to the Kawaturih without the help of Mgah Buyut, Mila threatens the village’s safety, and she must join a ritual to select the new “Dawuh,” a cursed soul forced to dance for the rest of her life.

    The film stars Aulia Sarah, Maudy Effrosina, and Jourdy Pranata.

     

  • Hell Hole (2024) on August 23

    Get ready for the Shudder Original Film Hell Hole, directed by John Adams and Toby Poser and starring Toby Poser, John Adams, Max Portman, and Anders Hove.

    The newest film from the Adams Family, the filmmaking team behind Hellbender and Where the Devil Roams, Hell Hole, centers on an America-led fracking crew that uncovers a living French soldier frozen in time from a Napoleonic campaign whose body hosts a parasitic monster.

    Judging by the photos and the trailer, this movie is going to be a real fright fest of goopy and gross monsters made with the Adams Family flair, which is very exciting.

    The new Shudder series, Horror’s Greatest, is a deep dive into everything we love about horror. From fresh looks at classics to unearthing scores of hidden gems, this series has something for every fright film enthusiast. A gallery of ghoulish pros, including actors, directors, writers, composers, and special effects artists, draw on their unique knowledge to answer the big questions: What are the must-see films in horror’s many sub-genres?

    The show will celebrate the very best the genre has to offer and delve into what’s the appeal of horror tropes and how today’s filmmakers subvert our expectations.     Luz, a young cab driver, drags himself into the brightly lit entrance of a rundown police station. A demonic entity follows her, determined to finally be close to the woman it loves. This film is the debut feature of German director Tilman Singer, who also made the film upcoming film Cuckoo, which stars Hunter Schafer and Dan Stevens.
