A lot of exciting news came from yesterday’s CinemaCon, including word on Bong Joon-ho’s long-awaited Mickey 17 and Alexandre Aja’s Halle Berry-starring Never Let Go, but for horror fans it wasn’t all good news, as Lionsgate revealed to Deadline that The Crow and Saw XI  will both be hitting screens later than anticipated.

Rupert Sanders’ reboot of The Crow, originally set for June 7 of this year, will now wreak Gothic vengeance in theaters on August 23. If you’ve missed news of the reboot of Alex Proyas’ 1994 original, The Crow stars Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs, and follows:

Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA Twigs) [who] are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.”

Luckily, there’s not too much of a wait for The Crow, but alas, the same can’t be said for Saw XISaw XI, from director Kevin Greutert, will be making a much, MUCH later appearance – shifting its release date from September of this year to September 26, 2025. Yep, sorry Saw fans – you’ve got more than a full year to wait for more Billy.

Admittedly, a Saw XI release in September of this year did seem too good to be true given that the project is still in development and with not much news, other than Gruetert’s return and that Saw X writers Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger will not be returning to pen the screenplay. Bumping The Crow to a later date at the end of summer could prove successful, as the film certainly suits ushering in the spooky vibes of fall.

While no movie fan likes to hear of a delay to something they’re excited for, remember patience is a virtue, and a delay just means more time for speculating what direction Saw XI is going to go in. Keep your eyes peeled for updates!
