This is very much just a teaser, but it certainly leaves an impression. From the falling body parts being fought over to satiate hunger to chaos erupting over pizza, it certainly grabs one’s interest. It’s fair to say that there will be quite a bit of interest right off the bat anyhow. The Platform is regarded as one of Netflix’s great horror originals, for one. It was also streamed by more than 82 million households, making it one of the most successful non-English films on the streamer in history. One assumes much of that audience will return to see what Gaztelu-Urrutia has cooked up this time.

Aside from the teaser, we’ve also got a new poster for The Platform 2, which you can check out below. The original film took place in a future dystopia where prisoners are locked in vertically stacked cells. Their only food descends from above which feeds the upper tiers first, leaving those below hungry and desperate. In the sequel…

“As a mysterious leader imposes their rule in the Platform, a new resident becomes embroiled in the battle against this controversial method to fight the brutal feeding system. But when eating from the wrong plate becomes a death sentence, how far would you be willing to go to save your life?”

It’s interesting how much Netflix has embraced horror made for non-English speaking audiences. Aside from The Platform, the success of the Korean series Squid Game remains astounding. It became one of the biggest shows in the company’s history, with absolutely zero expectation that it would do so. We also can’t ignore the fact that Godzilla Minus One was finally made available on streaming via Netflix and charted in the top ten. When these things take off, it opens up these international creators to a much wider audience.

The cast includes Milena Smit (The Snow Girl), Hovik Keuchkerian (Money Heist), Natalia Tena (Game of Thrones) and Óscar Jaenada (Luis Miguel: The Series). Carlos Juárez, Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia and Raquel Perea are on board as producers.
