LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - A Las Vegas-area hospital is dealing with an air conditioning outage amid excessive heat around the valley.

Summerlin Hospital, near Summerlin Parkway and Town Center Drive, was without A/C is parts of the hospital, according to a hospital spokesperson.

A hospital spokesperson said a circuit breaker stopped working, which impacted A/C in “several” areas of the hospital. A new breaker was brought to the hospital around 3 p.m. along with multiple portable A/C units to assist in cooling down the impacted areas.

The spokesperson said they diverted EMS traffic out of an abundance of caution. A representative with AMR and MedicWest said they paused transports to Summerlin Hospital.

The hospital is still taking care of any walk-in patients with emergency care. In case of needing to relocate patients to other areas of the hospital, some procedures have been postponed.

Summerlin Hospital said the issue didn’t have to do with a generator and said they do have a back-up generator for power outages.

“We are thankful to our Engineering team who helped us quickly secure and install the necessary equipment, and even more thankful for our incredible patients, families and visitors who weathered the storm with us, and our staff, physicians and volunteers who kept patient care and patient safety at the forefront of their actions today,” hospital spokesperson Gretchen Papez said.

The outage comes as the Las Vegas Valley deals with a record heat wave, with Friday being the tenth consecutive day above 110 degrees.
