Talk to me about a place where you can be yourself.
I would say, queer spaces where I can be around my friends. Whether that is going out with my friends or hanging out in the park, it’s nice to be around people who have had similar experiences as I have as well as be around people who have had different experiences that I can learn from. That’s where I feel like I can be most myself.
Tell me about the biggest teachable or meaningful moment that you’ve had in your life thus far.
I would say the first time that I made friends with somebody. This goes back to the first question. When I made friends with somebody who wasn’t like me, even though we were similar, we learned from one another through our different experiences. I grew up in a small town before moving to a big city, where I was exposed to different lifestyles and different ways of thinking. So, that has been my most meaningful lesson learned as an adult growing up and being exposed to different people.
What does Pride Month mean to you?
Pride Month means community and honoring the people before us who allowed us to end up where we are now. It is nice to know, like when Pride Month comes around, we all can focus on what makes us who we are. We can find community and that commonality that we all have with each other, and I love it. It makes me feel warm inside, to go to big events with different people from diverse backgrounds, who are all similar.
What would be your theme song or walk-up music if you won an award and why?
Man, I have thought about this before, which is funny. Now of course, I can’t remember it. I Feel Love by Donna Summer. My mom was a big Donna Summer fan, so we listened to that song often.
If you could talk about something for 30 minutes without preparation, what would you talk about?
Video games. Also, I am big on pop culture. I could do a whole dissertation on the Megan thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj rap beef.
What makes you excited about the work that you do here?
Honestly, the thing that gets me the most excited is delighting the customer, I love the feeling of gratification from the client’s happiness.
