Why We Love Home Depot

You may think of Home Depot primarily as a store where you’d go if you needed, say, a big tool or a big box. But I’m here with a rebuttal. While Home Depot does have tools, boxes, and all the things you’d need for a new bathroom or kitchen or something else construction-related, they also have household supplies — from cleaning sprays and sponges to trash bags and recycling bins. They even have the stuff you need to baby-proof a room, which I learned when my baby started to crawl and I frantically googled “baby proof how.” And don’t miss their huge plant selection, which is fun to browse even if you don’t have a green thumb (me).

New customer discounts

Home Depot’s new customer discount offer includes a 10% off coupon when you sign up for their email newsletter. Yes, please. 

Get free shipping

If you spend over $45 on an online order at Home Depot, free shipping is yours. You’ll have to pay for shipping if you’re spending less than that, but free shipping is sometimes included in other deals. 

Verify your student status

Home Depot unfortunately does not care that you’re a student — no student discounts here. Make up for it by looking out for promotions or special sales around holidays like Labor Day, Christmas, or New Year’s. Merry merry. 

Verify your military status

Military personnel, veterans, and their families can get a 10% military discount both online and in-store.

Just sign into the Home Depot verification form to verify your military status and pass the SheerID verification process. Once HD approves your app, you’ll get a membership code that you can use anytime you shop. 

Become a rewards member

Please don’t shoot the messenger but: there isn’t a Home Depot rewards program.

But there are other options! If you sign up for Home Depot’s texts, you can get deals like $5 off your next order of $50 or more. And if you’re eligible for a Home Depot credit card, you’ll get $25 off the first time you use it, and a 6-month no interest financing option on purchases over $299 (plus more discounts on promotional products and services). So, there’s hope.

Like I said above, signing up for that sweet email newsletter gets you a 10% off coupon. But it also gets you in the know about exclusive deals, new products, and special events at the Home Depot stores in your area. Plus, there’s a good chance they’ll send you even more coupons.  

How to redeem a Home Depot coupon

You can use Home Depot coupons in-store or online. To use them online: when you’re checking out, enter your promo code in the box that says “Have a promo code” on the checkout page, and click “Apply.” Easy peasy. 

Troubleshooting your coupon
