It’s hard not to feel like a superhero while wearing the viral Dr. Dennis LED mask. This FDA-cleared device has 100 red LED lights and 62 blue LED lights to help boost collagen production and smoothness, and stave off acne-causing bacteria. There are three different light settings–red mode, blue mode, or combination.

“These types of light therapy are offered in many dermatology practices, including my own,” says Jessica Weiser, MD, a board-certified dermatologist at New York Dermatology Group. “It’ll work better for inflammatory blemishes but can help heal and restore all acne-prone skin." She notes that it takes two to three months of consistent use for optimal results.

It’s a favorite of multiple Glamour editors and contributors, including special projects commerce writer Andrea Navarro. “This mask is super straightforward, which is very important for an impatient person like myself,” she says. It’s highly effective too. “During my first month I noticed significant improvements in my skin using it three times a week. There was a clear reduction in my acne, and after two months I noticed I was able to scrunch the fine lines on my forehead less—similar to the effect of Botox."

  • Skin concerns addressed: Acne, wrinkles, inflammation
  • LED lights: Red, blue, infrared, amber
  • Number of modes: 3
  • Treatment time: 3 minutes
  • When to use: Nightly
  • What we love: Super-quick treatment; multiple modes; adjustable fit; helps with fine lines and acne
  • What could improve: Expensive

Best Antiaging: Omnilux Contour Face

Omnilux Contour Face

Original video by Glamour contributor Brigitt Earley

Two dermatologists we spoke to recommended the FDA-cleared Omnilux LED face mask, which focuses on fighting wrinkles, discoloration, and other signs of sun damage. “It has 132 LEDs and uses two wavelengths of light, red and near infrared, to reduce visible signs of aging, and has been shown to help reduce redness,” says Dr. Chang.

Like our top overall pick, this is a flexible mask that can be used for faces of different shapes and sizes. And if you want to up the ante, the brand also carries a mask that contours the neck and chest, the “often-neglected areas,” as Loretta Ciraldo, MD, FAAD, a board-certified dermatologist, calls them

Our tester, Brigitt Earley, used this device for a period of a three months and found it easy to incorporate into her routine. “It’s so lightweight and flexible that I’d wear it while packing my kids’ lunches in the morning,” she says. “My skin, which skews dry and can look dull, definitely looked more alive when I was consistent. I dare say, I even noticed fewer fine lines in between Botox appointments.”

  • Skin concerns addressed: Fine lines, hyperpigmentation, sun damage
  • LED lights: Red, near infrared
  • Number of modes: 1
  • Treatment time: 10 minutes
  • When to use: Three to five 10-minute treatments per week
  • What we love: Flexible fit; comfortable; helped with fine lines
  • What could improve: Expensive; very bright (Earley recommends using eye protection); only one mode

Best for Hyperpigmentation: The Light Salon Boost LED Mask

The Light Salon Boost LED Mask

Original video by Glamour contributor Emily Tannenbaum

Celebrities like Victoria Beckham and Chrissy Teigen have been seen sporting this face mask on their respective socials. It has two wavelengths (red 633nm and near-infrared 830nm), and reviewers say it’s improved their skin’s hydration and firmness and helped reduce wrinkles. Plus, the whole thing is completely cordless, adding to the convenience factor.

“The Light Salon Boost LED Mask is quickly becoming a pivotal part of my sleep routine, since my vision is pretty blurry without glasses and the 10-minute treatment forces me to wind down with music or a chapter of an audio book instead of endlessly scrolling on my phone before bed,” says Glamour contributor Emily Tannenbaum. “As for my normal to dry skin, after a month of use, my recent acne scars are less red and noticeable. Also, the few pimples that have crept up along my jaw these past few weeks have also felt far less inflamed than previous flare-ups. However, I have a bump on the ridge of my nose, so the longer the mask sits on my face, the more uncomfortable it feels, and it always leaves a red mark. It also sits a little loose on the face, so a third strap would help it stay closer to my skin, like the Omnilux, which I’ve also tested.”

  • Skin concerns addressed: Fine lines and wrinkles, acne, tone and texture, firmness
  • LED lights: Red, blue
  • Number of modes: 1
  • Treatment time: 10 minutes
  • When to use: Three to five times per week
  • What we love: Cordless; easy to use; brand makes many variations.
  • What could improve: Some testers said it was heavy and uncomfortable.

Best With Multiple Wavelengths: Sun Home Saunas Radiant Face Mask

Sun Home Saunas Radiant Face Mask

Original video by Glamour commerce director Brie Schwartz

Glamour commerce director Brie Schwartz tested the Sun Home for our annual Beauty Awards and was impressed with how comfy and easy it is to use. “Simply fire up the power button, hit start, and let the timer do its thing—the automatic shutoff means I don’t have to worry about monitoring the clock,” she says. “The one demerit is that it’s not terribly easy to see out of the eye holes, so you kind of just have to sit there for those 10 minutes unless you want blurred vision. I guess it’s a good excuse to relax, but I’d rather have the ability to read or do chores. Also, a warning: Don’t do it right before bed in the dark–going from a dimly lit room to the red lights hurt my eyes.” However, she adds, “I do believe I’ve seen an improvement in my complexion since I started using it.” The mask has five wavelengths (including red, blue, amber, and near-infrared) that go deep on acne, prevent breakouts, and increase collagen production.

Our testers also appreciated the flexible design, telling us it not only made the mask comfortable to wear, but it also made it easy to clean and store, or travel with.

  • Skin concerns addressed: Acne, wrinkles, inflammation
  • LED lights: Red, deep-red, amber, near infrared, blue
  • Number of modes: 1
  • Treatment time: 10 minutes
  • When to use: Daily
  • What we love: FDA-cleared; easy to use; five light modes; portable
  • What could improve: Expensive; it’s difficult to see out of the eye holes

Best Splurge: Artemis LED Mask and Neck System

Artemis LED Mask & Neck System

Original video by Glamour commerce writer Andrea Navarro

The price is jaw-dropping, but people love this face mask so much that it typically sells out three to four times per year, according to the brand. The complete Mask and Neck System is a high-tech LED treatment device designed to provide extensive coverage across both the face and neck area. It has an impressive 1,080 LEDs, split between the mask (720 LEDs) and the neck plate (360 LEDs), that illuminate six different lights; near infrared, red, blue, violet, green, yellow, and sky blue. Each treatment session lasts about 20 minutes, and you can easily adjust how it sits on your face with straps.

"During the first two weeks, I noticed a reduction in the redness of my acne scars and an overall improvement in skin tone,” says Navarro. “While it's too early to see significant changes in fine lines or deep-set wrinkles, the device has had a noticeable impact on the clarity and texture of my skin (I had a ton of texture along my chin and jawline).”

  • Skin concerns addressed: Acne, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, tone and texture
  • LED lights: Near infrared, red, blue, violet, green, yellow, sky blue
  • Number of modes: 3
  • Treatment time: 20 minutes
  • When to use: 3 to 5 times per week
  • What we love: Wide range of light settings; comprehensive coverage area including neck; compatible app for personalized treatments
  • What could improve: Expensive; heavier than most others we tried

Most Relaxing: Therabody TheraFace Mask

Therabody Theraface Mask

If you think of your time with your LED mask as a moment of self-care, our reviewers called this one relaxing thanks to the vibrations. It has a trio of red, blue, and infared light therapy, but here’s where things get interesting: It also uses percussive massage to make the experience more zen-inducing. The 17 motors, located on the head straps, gently vibrate at pressure points along the eyes, brow line, and scalp.

“Each full treatment cycle lasts nine minutes, which is divided into three-minute segments for each light mode (red, infrared, and blue), but you can also opt for a quick three-minute session if you’re running low on time or just want to spot-treat,” says Navarro, who tested this model for three months. “Using it as my go-to mask earlier this year, I noticed that fine lines around my eyes appeared less pronounced and my skin tone became more even, with a pretty big reduction in my dark spots,” she reports. “The vibration therapy is a huge plus, too—it’s so nice for the days that my face and head feel a little more tense, or even when I have a headache.”

  • Skin concerns addressed: Fine lines and wrinkles, acne, tone and texture, firmness, tension
  • LED lights: Red, blue, infrared
  • Number of modes: 5
  • Treatment time: 9 minutes (3 minutes for quick targeted modes)
  • When to use: Nightly
  • What we love: Cordless; includes massage therapy
  • What could improve: It’s heavy.

Best With Fast Treatment Time: Qure Light Therapy Mask

Qure Q-Rejuvalight Pro Facewear Light Therapy Mask

Original video by Glamour contributor Brigitt Earley

Like the Dr. Dennis Gross mask we adore, this relative newcomer caught our attention for its design that sits right up against your face. It’s lighter than most structured masks, which is a huge plus. “It’s entirely wireless and light enough to multitask—a must for me,” says Earley, who is a mother of four. She also appreciated the eye protection that’s built into the mask, as well as the fast treatment time. It has both red and deep-red lights, as well as infrared, amber, and blue. Our reviewers said benefits included improved skin tone and texture, diminished wrinkles, and fewer breakouts. You can also easily change the settings via a compatible smartphone app.

  • Skin concerns addressed: Acne, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, tone and texture
  • LED lights: Red, deep red, infrared, amber, blue
  • Number of modes: 5
  • Treatment time: 3 minutes
  • When to use: Daily
  • What we love: Compatible smartphone app to change settings; great eye protection; quick treatments
  • What could improve: Setup isn’t as seamless as others

Best Complete Set: Shani Darden by Déesse Pro LED Light Mask

Shani Darden by Déesse PRO LED Light Mask

Original video by Glamour contributor Rosi Norton

The Shani Darden by Déesse PRO LED Light Mask is the most expensive on our list, but for good reason: In addition to being jam-packed with 238 LED red, blue, and near-infrared light to address signs of aging and acne, it comes with a neck piece to help address skin sagging. It’s fast-acting, too. Most LED face masks require four to six weeks of three to five treatments per week, but testers say they saw results after three weeks.

“Over the past few years I’ve definitely started dealing with ‘tech neck’ and have noticed some lines developing,” says our Glamour reviewer. “After each use my skin and neck feels tighter, not in the uncomfortable way, but more so in a snatched way that I love (it’s almost like that pulled-back-ponytail effect).”

  • Skin concerns addressed: Aging, acne, hyperpigmentation
  • LED lights: Red, blue, near-infrared
  • Number of modes: 3
  • Treatment time: 10 minutes
  • When to use: Nightly
  • Pros: Neck coverage; multiple modes
  • Cons: Expensive; heavy

Best Flexible Mask: HigherDose Red Light Therapy Face Mask

HigherDose Red Light Therapy Face Mask

Original video by Glamour senior commerce editor Jenifer Calle

This mask has 66 bulbs that work in 10 or 20-minute sessions, but one of its biggest standout qualities is the design. We love that it bends so you can get a snug fit no matter your face shape. But what separates it from other flexible masks is the fact that it has three straps—two on the side and one on top. This makes it easier to get a better fit all around.

“I like that it’s super lightweight and comfortable; you can move around once the remote is charged for a cordless experience,” says Glamour senior commerce editor Jenifer Calle. The compact design, combined with the fact that it comes with extra plugs for international getaways, makes it a travel-friendly option too. In terms of results: “I have combination skin, and I tend to break out around my chin and jawline during my period because of hormonal acne. I noticed that I didn’t get as many pimples when I was using the mask. Plus, my skin’s texture is a lot smoother than it used to be after three weeks of consistent use,” Calle says. She adds that the eye holes are easy enough to see out of that she likes to wear the mask while doing chores in the morning.

  • Skin concerns addressed: Fine lines, wrinkles, inflammation, acne
  • LED lights: Red, near infrared
  • Number of modes: 1
  • Treatment time: 10–20 minutes
  • When to use: Daily
  • Pros: Comfortable fit; portable, hands-free experience; easy to start using straight out of the box
  • Cons: Expensive; only red-light mode

Best Value: Skin Gym WrinkLit LED Face Mask

SkinGym Wrinklit LED Face Mask

If you’re curious about LED masks, there aren’t many truly budget-friendly options you can try out. Skin Gym’s mask is one of the few exceptions, and one we found that actually offered excellent value. It has three different types of lights—red, blue, and orange—plus an automatic shutoff after 15 minutes.

Our testers particularly liked how lightweight the mask is. “I have a pretty jam-packed schedule, so I wanted something that I can wear on the go, or that I didn’t need to think much about while wearing,” says our Glamour reviewer. “It’s kind of like wearing glasses, as you simply place the mask on your face and press the power button to turn it on.” After about six months of regular use (an average of five times per week), our tester says she’s seen real results. “The blue-light therapy is my favorite, because it’s helped reduce my monthly hormonal breakouts, while the red light helped some really pesky lines around my eyes, giving me a more fresh-faced look overall,” she says. “This one also has a unique orange light that makes me look a little more glowy and awake immediately after I use it.”

  • Skin concerns addressed: Acne, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, tone and texture
  • LED lights: Red, blue, orange
  • Number of modes: 3
  • Treatment time: 15 minutes
  • When to use: Daily
  • What we love: Very lightweight; wireless design; easy to use; cheap
  • What could improve: Scratches easily; has to be charged often
