House of the Dragon: The Targaryen Hair Is the Real Star of the New Trailer

Forget the dragons—let's talk about these braids!
HOUSE OF THE DRAGON
HBO

House of the Dragon? More like Haus of the Dragon. The first full trailer for HBO Max's hotly anticipated Game of Thrones spin-off just dropped, and while it's rife with all the intrigue (and some of the violence) fans anticipate from the series, we can't get over just how blonde the Targaryens are.

Like, we knew they would be blonde. Daenerys Targaryen was a towhead, as was her brother Viserys before he got, um, let's call it a full head of golden highlights? And Rhaegar in the flashback (slash vision?) of course. But nothing could prepare us for a full family of platinum, nearly white-haired royals running rampant over King's Landing. And the braids! Forget the dragons—we're impressed by these styles.

So let's break down the blondiest blondes in Westeros, and what they're doing in the new trailer (here's a refresher on the upcoming series, ICYMI):

Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen: BLONDE. He says he “will not be made to choose between my daughter and my brother” when it comes to succession, though I would argue that is his job.

Emma D’Archy as Princess Rhaenyra: BLONDE. The king's daughter. She wants that iron throne, baby.

Matt Smith as Prince Daemon: BLONDE. The king's brother. Also wants that iron throne, baby. These two seem to be heading toward war and will probably use dragons to fight that war, but in the middle are some meddlers….

Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower: NOT BLONDE. With light brown hair, Otto is the hand of the king.

Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower: NOT BLONDE. Honestly, might be the star of the show? She's Otto's daughter and seems to also want the iron throne, though we know from GoT that she probably won't get it. But will she worm her way into the royal family by seducing a man or befriending a woman? Looks like.

Steve Touissant and Eve Best as Mr. and Mrs. Velaryon: BLONDE???? Their hair is white but styled differently than that of the Targaryens. Intriguing.

Seems like The House of the Dragon comes with its own in-house salon! Not to be confused with Blonde starring Ana de Armas.
