Emmys 2024 — well, technically Emmys 2023 — is here, and that means some of the best TV shows and small screen actors are taking home awards from the Television Academy.

Abbott Elementary, Ted Lasso, The White Lotus, and Succession are just a few programs up for TV's biggest honors. Thanks to a rescheduled Emmys ceremony (it was supposed to air last September but was pushed amid the SAG and WGA strikes) this year's Emmy nominees aired from June 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023.

The 2024 Emmys got off to a glamorous start after a red carpet stacked with celebrities such as Ayo Edebiri, Jenna Ortega, Selena Gomez, Quinta Brunson, and the Yellowjackets cast. Host (and actor/comedian) Anthony Anderson then continued the action with an opening monologue set in a Mister Rogers neighbourhood of sorts, complete with a choir from Compton, California, (and Travis Barker on drums) to back Anderson's piano ode to the television that shaped him.

Below, check out the best moments, speeches, jokes, and more from Emmys 2024.

Ayo Edebiri Is Still the Funniest, Most Charming Person at Award Shows

The Bear star and Golden Globe winner Ayo Edebiri is continuously the most charming person at award shows, with her signature dry, straight, silly humor on fully display at the Emmys. For one, Edebiri continued her long-running Ireland bit, shouting out the country and individual cities within it. (The bit originated with an interview for Letterboxd where she does an Irish accent and explains how she prepped for a non-existent role in The Banshees of Inisherin.) At another moment, she told red carpet host Laverne Cox that she never dreamed of “nights like this,” referring to the Emmys and glamorous award shows. Edebiri added, “She dreamed of dental insurance.”

Oh, and then she won an Emmy. And gave a typically iconic speech: “I'm so incredibly grateful for this, for so many reasons," she began, "but the main one is that this is a show about family and found family and real family and my parents are here tonight. I'm making them sit kinda far away because I'm a bad kid. But I love you guys so much, thank you so much for loving me and letting me feel beautiful and Black and proud of all of that. I just love you so much. Probably not a dream to immigrate to this country and have your child be like ‘I wanna do improv,’ but you're real ones.”

Sam Claflin Said He'd Do More Hunger Games Movies

The iconic Finnick Odair, aka Sam Claflin, is game to return to the Hunger Games franchise in an older role if more prequel films were to happen. The actor, who is nominated for his role in Daisy Jones & The Six, revealed on the Emmys carpet that he loved The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and that he "would be all in for Finnick’s dad.” It could definitely work.

Selena Gomez Took Benny Blanco as Her Emmys Date

Relatively new couple Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco made their Emmys debut together, seated next to each other (and Martin Short and Steve Martin) at the TV awards ceremony. The pair looked to be in high spirits — they mutually gushed over Aubrey Plaza before taking their seats.

Jennifer Coolidge Thanked “The Evil Gays”

Jennifer Coolidge’s *The White Lotus* character Tanya may have met her end in the ocean after attempting to escape a crew of murderous gay men, but the actor is keeping Tanya’s memory alive. When she accepted her award for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, Coolidge thanked the “evil gays” for everything. “He [Mike White] says I’m definitely dead, so I’m going along with it,” she said. “I just want to thank all the evil gays. I just really, really … Paolo, Francesco, Bruno, thank you!” Coolidge’s speech was brief, due to the time constraints; she referenced being given “the hook” in 2023 when accepting her first Emmy. R.I.P., Tanya. We’ll never forget you!

Quinta Brunson and Ayo Edebiri Pulled Off a Historic First

Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson and The Bear star Ayo Edebiri made history at the 2024 Emmy Awards. Brunson took home the trophy for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, while Edebiri snagged the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. ”Never in the history of the Emmys have Black women won for Best Lead Actress AND Supporting in Comedy in the same year,” noted Twitter/X user Kellee Terrell. Deadline notes that Brunson is only the second Black actress to win in the category and the first in 40 years. (Isabel Sanford was the first.)

RuPaul Had Some Thoughts on Drag Queens Reading to Children

RuPaul had something to say to everyone protesting drag queen story hours. While accepting the award for Best Reality Competition, the icon didn’t mince words. "We have released into the wild hundreds of queens,” RuPaul shared. “And listen, If a drag queen wants to read you a story at a library, listen to her because knowledge is power, and if someone tries to restrict your access to power, they are trying to scare you. So listen to a drag queen!" he said to cheers from the audience. RuPaul’s Drag Race has won the Best Reality Competition Emmy five times prior, while Ru has won eight consecutive times — the most wins by a person of color.

Daniel Radcliffe Manifested What Will One Day Be Our Favorite Rom-Com

Quinta Brunson, get your agents on the phone ASAP! Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is ready to shoot a rom-com with the Emmy-winning *Abbott Elementary* star. When asked by Variety about the projects he’d like to do, Radcliffe cited a rom-com as a top pick; he called his previous forays into the genre “super fun,” and mentioned Brunson as an ideal onscreen partner. “We’re a perfect height match, so there’s a future in this!” he joked. (For reference, Radcliffe is 5’5” and Brunson is 4’11”.) If we can’t get a rom-com on the books, what about a Radcliffe cameo on Abbott Elementary? Now we *need* to see this pairing onscreen.

Bella Ramsey and Ariana DeBose Moved Right Along After Critics Choice Awards Joke

At the Emmys, Bella Ramsey and Ariana DeBose quashed their short-lived feud following Ramsey's teleprompter-read joke at the Critics Choice Awards about DeBose being an actor who only “thinks” she's a singer. DeBose, obviously, can sing and is extremely good at it — she's been nominated for a Tony and has a storied Broadway career, perfoming in Hamilton and Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, among many others. DeBose wrote on her Instagram Story afterward, "No I didn't find it funny. Lol."

PopCrave shared a photo of the two hugging it out at the Emmys, however, so it appears all is forgiven. Ah the fun of awards season, where all the feuds get wrapped up quickly because they have to see each other the next day.
