The CurrentBody LED face mask has been the most popular LED face mask among GLAMOUR readers since we first published our buying guide in 2021. Over 800 of you purchased the Currentbody LED face mask last year, and more than 650 of your have purchased it in 2024 already. That’s over £177,000 spent on its skin-transforming powers before summer is even out.

Why? It’s good. Really good. It has been crowned the best LED face mask overall as a result of rigorous testing, and it was approved by leading industry experts when I spoke about the powers of light therapy on BBC Radio 4’s Sliced Bread LED face masks special.

That said, we've only ever given you a small snapshot into its prowess – never really delving deep into why its quite so popular. With us, and celebrities alike.

This year, Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney's MUA Vasilios Tanis in Marvel’s creation, Madame Web, revealed that the entire cast prepped their skin with the CurrentBody LED face mask before appearing on screen – and the brand has released both anti-blemish and facial mapping versions of the OG. So, we thought it'd be the perfect time to hop right in.

I picked up the CurrentBody LED a while back – after Kim Kardashian famously said that she had spent her 2023 holidays "obsessed" with the CurrentBody Skin LED Face Mask and given “them as Christmas gifts”. With thanks to my (very) wonderful job, I'd been mixing up serums, moisturisers and cleansers like there was no tomorrow, but my skin was freaking out a bit.

I decided to stick to a selection of skincare products I knew worked for me (the Garnier Micellar Water, Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel, Murad Cellular Hydration Serum, Murad Cellular Hydration Repair Cream and the Biore UV Aqua Water Essence Sunscreen SPF50), then add a fancy new step – the Currentbody LED face mask – to seal the deal. Here, read my CurrentBody LED mask review.

CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Face Mask

Meet the experts:

NameExpertise
Vasilios TanisCelebrity makeup artist.
Dr Dan BelkinUS board-certified dermatologist.

About CurrentBody:

CurrentBody coin themselves “the beauty experts” – a brand who has made it their mission to bring innovative, breakthrough skincare devices to customers in their own homes. Simply put, they believe that beauty technology has the power to “go deeper than the surface of the skin” – far deeper than your vitamin C serum and moisturiser can go. So, they stock the latest most efficacious in red light therapy devices, laser hair removal devices, microcurrent devices and hair regrowth technology.

Product deep dive:

We've gone into great depth about the benefits of at-home light therapy many-a time before, so if you're wondering “what is light therapy?”, you won't be left with a lack of information. In short, it's the process of exposing your skin to coloured LED light – be it red, yellow or blue – where each different colour stimulates a different response in your skin when said light is absorbed.

The mask is embedded with 132 light-emitting diode bulbs – 66 red and 66 near-infrared.

“We know that red light at a wavelength of 633nm can help collagen stimulation, wound healing, reduction in inflammation and reduction of redness,” Dr. Belkin said. “We also know that infrared light, at 830nm also causes collagen stimulation, and reduction in signs of photo-ageing, which includes wrinkles laxity and hyperpigmentation. So, it's really important if I am recommended a device that I know that the LED lights are extremely precise in those particular wavelengths and I know that to be true with Currentbody device.”

As for the wavelengths themselves, the Currentbody mask uses only clinically-proven wavelengths (the same as professional salon machines) to reach up to 4cm of skin tissue and stimulate the cells from within. “They use wave lengths of light that are evidence based, and the LED emits a very precise band of light in that wavelength,” Dr. Belkin said. “Studies that they have done show that their LED lights are extremely precise compared to other LED devices that are on the market.”

It's also worth noting that each of the wavelengths are diffused with patented pillow technology which enhances the efficacy and distribution of high quality LED wavelengths to ensure complete and evenly-distributed skin coverage. “The LED is set back in a silicone casing,” Dr. Belkin said “which allows for the diffusion of light over the whole portion of skin that you're treating.”

“Many of them [other masks] have pinpoint LED lights that will only target the areas that they're actually being shown on. And this is what you would get in a less expensive or cheaper device. Theirs is a really high quality device,” which allows skin cells to effectively absorb the maximum amount of light energy for the best results.

Currentbody states that results are 100% pain-free and safe, and their mask poses no risk of overexposure when used as advised.

GLAMOUR Road Test: design and how to use

The LED face mask comes in a sleek white box, with everything you need to reap the benefits of light therapy, safely, at home. The first thing I noticed when I unboxed the mask is that it is flat when unused (perfect for stowing away in your suitcase) and has a flexible silicone shell. Unlike other LED face masks on the market which are rigid and uncomfortable, this mask bends to the shape of your face. Not only does this make for a more enjoyable experience, but it also ensures the mask fits flat across your whole face and that lights are hitting your skin evenly.

According to instructions, you should cleanse and dry your skin before use – so before every treatment, I will remove dirt, makeup and oil with my aforementioned favourites, before drying my face with a bath towel and placing the mask onto my face.

Firework content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

I found the whole thing very easy to set up: you get a little remote control which comes attached to the mask, and you can turn the (fully-charged) mask on with the touch of a button. There is a velcro strap which should secure the mask in place. More on that later. I also liked that it came with small comfort goggles which help you avoid looking directly into the light, or the mask slipping down over your eyes.

One ten-minute treatment is all that's needed for this face mask to work. I loved that using this mask for 10 minutes of an evening (it automatically switches off after that) was a real self-care moment; it quickly became my favourite step of my skincare routine.

My one bug bear – plenty of reviewers have vouched for the fact that you can strap the mask to your face and go about your daily business hands-free. Y'know: make your bed, hoover, pick up your boyfriend's dirty underwear… But for me? The strap didn't properly fit my head, which meant it slipped down, even when pulled tight. I found myself having to attach the strap to the crown of my head with a claw clip if I wanted to walk around mid-treatment. So, I ended up just lying down for the 10 minutes and (attempting to) meditate. Not necessarily a bad thing, but the lack of choice wasn't the most ideal. Of course, I'm not here to sell you a dream if the dream isn't entirely real – but that's the only part of this product I didn't like.

Is the Currentbody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask FDA-approved?

Yes, the CurrentBody LED mask is FDA-cleared and clinically proven to reduce wrinkles in four weeks, according to their website.

How often can you use the Currentbody LED face mask?

You should use the CurrentBody LED face mask three to five times to week, for 10 minutes at a time. This is an optimised treatment time which reflects the power output of the precision of the mask, and when used as advised, CurrentBody states that their mask is proven to be “at least 31% more powerful and effective than any other at-home red and near infrared LED mask on the market.”

It's worth noting that using it for more than the recommended amount of time will not boost your results.

How quickly will I see results?

You can expect to see visible results in just 4 weeks when used consistently 10 minutes a day, 3 to 5 times per week. Although effective on its own, Currentbody recommends that you will achieve the best results when used with its CurrentBody Skin Hydrogel Face Masks or CurrentBody Skin Green Tea Serum. I did not test the mask with these products, so can't vouch for their efficacy.

GLAMOUR Verdict: Is the CurrentBody LED face mask worth it?

In my opinion, the CurrentBody LED face mask is a really solid LED face mask choice – and great value for money.

The results of LED light therapy are cumulative. I can't stress enough that you shouldn't expect to see immediate changes to your complexion – and you should be consistent with your treatments. If you are, however, and your skin reacts in the same way as mine, I am confident you should start to see an improvement after a couple of weeks.

At the end of week one, I started to see that my skin felt plumper and brighter after each treatment – and after week two, I noticed that my skin texture was beginning to improve. The tell-tale sign for me was that my makeup seemed to glide on with so much more ease – something which seemed to continue to get better with time.

CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Face Mask

While I can't vouch for the impact it has had on wrinkles – I have young skin, but hope regular use will prevent premature ageing – the reduction in spots I experienced in the week prior to my period was something quite extraordinary. For me, it's reason enough alone to continue using it. After using the Currentbody Skin LED face mask three times a week for for four weeks, I really did notice my skin to be brighter, less-tired looking and significantly clearer of blemishes. I also found that, as with my makeup, my skincare now absorbs into my skin better. From my overnight masks to my hydrating serums, everything just seems to sink in.

Many other masks come in at more than £300. Case in point: The Light Salon's Advanced Light Therapy mask or the £1,680 (!) Déesse Professional LED Mask. Both great, but both expensive. The Currentbody mask costs £295, making it one of the most affordable on the market – yet one of the most powerful.

Granted, this is the first time I have used an LED face mask – but my skin has never looked better. My complexion feels clearer, brighter and plumper, and my hormonal breakouts have been minimised. It feels like a great complimentary step to everything else in my skincare routine, and it's inability to stay put on my head won't stop me from reaping the benefits.

CurrentBody Skin Face & Neck Kit

Why GLAMOUR loves it: The skin on your neck is much thinner than the skin elsewhere on your body. Why? There's not much of a support structure to keep it looking plump, gravity is not working in our favour, accumulative sun exposure can cause crepiness, and years of spraying perfume on your chest can lead to the discolouration of neck skin. Also, according to Dermalogica's Education Manager Lesley Corridan, “it endures from facial muscle movements and expressions and from our head movements.” With that in mind, it's no surprise that the accumulative sun exposure can cause crepiness, years of spraying perfume on your chest can lead to the discolouration of neck skin.

Ageing is beautiful, but it can be empowering to help yourself feel more confident with an extra step in your beauty routine. One of the best neck creams can help you target the effects of premature ageing, but so can CurrentBody's LED neck mask. Here, the CurrentBody LED face mask comes with a neck mask, to use in tandem or alone, which harnesses the exact same technology.

CurrentBody Skin Anti-Blemish LED Face Mask

Why GLAMOUR loves it: This is a new release from CurrentBody, and the first CurrentBody LED face mask specifically designed to help with mild acne. It uses blue light to eliminate bacteria and breakouts, and red light to calm redness and soothe irritation.

Blue light is emitted at 415nm, and red LED light at 633nm, which is a combination clinically proven to be more effective than blue light alone. 132 LED lights are spread evenly across the face (almost 50% less than the facial mapping mask mentioned below, it's worth noting) diffused with the same patented pillow technology as CurrentBody's other devices to ensure even distribution.

CurrentBody Skin LED 4-in-1 Zone Facial Mapping Mask

Why GLAMOUR loves it: This new release is, essentially, the OG CurrentBody LED face mask, but supercharged. It does have a slightly less-accessible price point than the original, but it's a very comprehensive and impressive piece of kit, so probably worth the investment for some. According to CurrentBody, it's clinically proven to increase skin clarity, luminosity and brightness, using five precise wavelengths within four targeted treatment modes.

You can choose from the zone facial mapping treatment mode, anti-ageing, brightening or restoring, but the complete zone facial mapping treatment mode is the one that really makes this mask stand out. Different mask zones target different areas of your face, through different wavelengths of light. Red, deep red and near-infrared light are emitted around the forehead, jowls and around the mouth to plump and press fine lines. Elsewhere, green and near-infrared targets the eye area to fade hyperpigmentation, dark circles and eye bags, and yellow focuses on the most spot-prone areas of the face to help reduce facial redness. Your cheeks, nose and chin, for instance.

It's also worth mentioning that as with the original, the 360 LED bulbs are diffused with patented pillow technology for complete skin coverage. This basically means that you receive even coverage across the skin's surface, with no gaps left.

CurrentBody Skin LED Lip Perfector

Why GLAMOUR loves it: Again, harnessing the same technology as the CurrentBody LED face mask, this is a first-of-its kind anti-ageing LED lip device. It aims to soften feather and smile lines on the lips, and help you achieve plumper and more toned lips, too. It uses 56 deep-penetrating LED bulbs which deliver 67.7 mW/cm² in 4 wavelengths – and it's said to be effective with or without lip injectables. You should use for three minutes each day for full results after eight weeks.

CurrentBody Skin LED Hand Perfector

Why GLAMOUR loves it: This time, LED light therapy is used by CurrentBody to boost collagen production for more youthful-looking hands. With daily use, CurrentBody state that you'll see results after just four weeks. Think: firmer skin, reduced wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and appearance of age spots. There are 70 LED bulbs delivering 30 mW/cm² for a powerful 10-minute treatment, and the same patented pillow technology as is used in the face iterations ensures that the LED light is diffused to ensure maximum skin coverage.

CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Regrowth Device

Why GLAMOUR loves it: One of CurrentBody's most popular LED devices is not for your skin at all. Rather, to encourage hair regrowth. CurrentBody state that this device increases hair growth rate by 128% in 12 weeks, giving full scalp coverage and using 120 red (640nm) LED diode bulbs to do so. 96% of users told CurrentBody that they saw an improvement in hair thickness after 12 weeks, and loved that it offers a hands-free, speedy treatment.
