Binge-watchers, telephiles, couch potatoes, and TV lovers unite and behold: the Emmy nominations 2024.

The postponed 2023 Emmy Awards, which will be known officially as the 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, was originally set to be held last fall on September 18, 2023. However, due to the coinciding Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Emmy organizers moved the 75th awards show to January 2024 to give the studios and the unions enough time to come to a fair agreement. The last time the Emmy Awards were postponed was in 2001, after the September 11 attacks.

The nominees for this year's (well, last year's) Emmys were announced during a virtual broadcast on July 12, hosted by Community and A Black Lady Sketch Show star Yvette Nicole Brown and Television Academy Chair Frank Scherma. The 2023 Emmys are set to honour the best on the small screen, recognising programming that aired between June 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023. The last Emmys were hosted by comedian and actor Kenan Thompson, and were absolutely one for the books.

Remember? Sheryl Lee Ralph won the first Emmy of her career and sang during her acceptance speech; Jennifer Coolidge took home the prize for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series for her iconic work on White Lotus; Quinta Brunson's acceptance speech for Outstanding Writing for the pilot episode of Abbott Elementary was crashed by Jimmy Kimmel; and Zendaya made history as the first Black woman to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series twice and the youngest two-time winner for acting in the history of the awards.

Can this year's Emmy Awards top that? We have a feeling it just might. Shows and stars that scored nods for the 2023 ceremony include Succession for its final season, HBO's record-shattering video game adaptation The Last Of Us (we're looking at you Bella Ramsey!), Abbott Elementary for its incredible sophomore season that redefined network television, Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri and their show The Bear, Yellowjackets, Jenna Ortega and Wednesday, Only Murders in the Building, Beef, Evan Peters and Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, The White Lotus, Ted Lasso, and The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel.

VegasInsider.com notes that if 21-year-old Ortega wins for her work on Wednesday, she'll take the crown as the youngest winner ever in the category — the title is currently held by none other than Ferrera, who was 23 when she won — and become the second Latina actress, after Ferrera, to win.

HBO's The Last Of Us also made history, becoming the first live-action video game adaptation to be nominated by a major Hollywood awards institution; TLOU swept the noms with a whopping 24 total nominations at this year's Emmys. If he wins, Pedro Pascal would be the first Latino actor to win in the Lead Actor for a Drama Series category. A Bella Ramsey win would also make them the youngest winner in the Lead Actress in a Drama Series category at 20 years old — a title currently held by Zendaya, who was 24 when she won — and make Ramsey the first openly nonbinary actor to win a Primetime Emmy.
