When it comes to his fashion choices, Harry Styles doesn't exactly shy away from a flamboyant look. After all, who can forget the Gucci sheer frilled blouse and single pearl earring he wore to the 2019 Met Gala? Or the many feather boas… and how he slunk down the red carpet in a sequinned jumpsuit at last year's Grammys?

Hair-wise, Harry is perhaps a touch more conservative – but because he's so known for his signature waves, he can always surprise us with an unexpected chop. No more so than when he was photographed in Rome last week with a fresh micro, or baby, mullet.

Are you ballsy enough to rock the modern mullet the indie-girls are wearing?

His shorter cut is a far cry from the tousled, side-swept boyband waves he sported in his One Direction days. Since going solo, Harry's shaggy look has been replaced with a raft of new edgy hairstyles, including the artfully slicked-back strands that became his signature during the Love on Tour shows.

And not forgetting that divisive buzzcut, which caused mass panic after he was spotted at a U2 concert in 2023. Fans mourned his newly shorn hairstyle, with one famously tweeting: "how tf are you gonna be named harry styles with no hair to style.”

This time, Harry hasn't taken to Instagram to hard launch his new haircut – but that hasn't stopped papped pictures of his new micro mullet creating a stir.

Harry kept it casual in Rome with a striped T-shirt, jeans and Adidas Sambas. This low-maintenance vibe extended to his hair, which has grown out from the short-back-and-sides he showcased earlier this year. It is now longer on top and at the nape of his neck, and was styled with plenty of texture, looking as though a few tufts were maybe mussed up with his fingers in order to stand upright at the front.

Social media users have given his baby mullet the thumbs up, with one saying : “Guys the mullet. We are so ready for the new era. It's happening." Another wrote on her TikTok, “Pookie looking cute”.

It seems the '80s mullet-love is running deep this summer with Paul Mescal turning up the heat on the hairstyle, too.

In fact, one fan went so far as to tweet that he makes the short mullet look ‘godly’. So the big question remains, who wore it best?
