Sophie was filming Joan when her split with Joe Jonas went public, and opened up in an interview with British Vogue about “processing feelings” from the break up while playing the role.

“I'm not very good at processing my emotions,” she said. "I lock them away and then they'll bubble up in years to come in some form of depression or anxiety. With this role, I was actually able to process those feelings."

She added that the Joan cast and crew were a huge support to her during this time, as the media dissected the split and mum-shamed her. "They were my emotional support people, my family," she said. “I really don't know what I would have done without them.”
